For Like minded people who like to see-
Something to be wary about:
I've just been caught with what looks like Adobe Flash Player Update, which just popped up, like a legit update.
Without checking it, I clicked the update link, and had a collection of programs downloaded, under the names SweetPcFix, Sweet.sim , which took over my browser (Mozilla), with sales and other junk.
These programs did not allow 'Uninstall' from the Control panel, only the icons were removed.
So if you are using an operating system, that doesn't have a stepback function, you have a problem.
Win 7 Recovery, allowed me to remove the last 24hr period, and got rid of it.
Lesson learnt: - Go to Adobe and check for a legit. update.

Comment by Jeff Hutcho on May 28, 2012 at 11:23pm Hi Cate, Besides what Stephen has suggested, the other smartest thing you should do is get rid of Google Chrome. All lovely bells and whistles but not really secure.
I have used Mozilla Firefox for ages, Mozilla Thunderbird for email, Ixquick as a secure browser and search engine for any sensitive internet work. A bit slower but leaves no permanent footprint, no cookies and their cache is cleared within a day or less.
The problem I had with Adobe Flash Player, which is essential for some video sources, was that I didn't THINK at the time, and clicked the update button that popped up on my toolbar.
Normally I don't use this link but go to Adobe directly to check that an update is valid and load it from them directly. In other words I broke my own rules, hence this warning blog.
It is too easy to stu$$ it.
You could uninstall Adobe X Reader and uninstall Google Chrome. (Control Panel - Programs and features - Uninstall)
Should leave you with Google as a browser. Then reinstall Adobe reader, directly from Adobe, to get the latest version (probably Adobe X Reader, but without the linking to Chrome), and Cute Pdf.
I have both operating and there is no conflict. Some pdf's pick up Adobe, some pick up Cute Pdf.
Cheers Hutcho.
Comment by Stephen Cox on May 28, 2012 at 10:46pm Cate the easiest way to get your PDF control back is to download and install a PDF reader such as Adobe reader,Cute Pdf,Drumlin secure PDF(Very Good) as any of these will reset PDF control away from the Evil Google Empire without having to go Under the Bonnet so to speak. Cheers Stephen
