A VOTE FOR LNP AT THE QLD STATE ELECTIONS WILL SEE AN END TO TRADITIONAL HUNTING AND GATHERING FOR ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDERS
Mrs Batzke community advocate believes a vote for LNP at the next QLD State Elections to be held in March 2012 will see the end to traditional hunting and gathering for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in QLD.
"Member for Leichhardt Warren Enstch has recently stated on 4CA John McKenzie show that I did not know what I am talking about, could be seen as an attempt by Enstch to try and redeem LNP's reputation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voters in Far North Queensland prior to his colleagues going to the polls at our next state elections." Mrs Batzke said
"I believe it is important to inform the broader Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of contradictory views and policies of the QLD LNP relating to Traditional Hunting."
"In 2011 Enstch used parliamentary privilege to 'name and shame' Torres Strait Islanders from Horn Island offended those who were wrongly accused at the time is evidence of Enstch not getting his facts rights."
Mrs Batzke said, "Management plans set in place by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the Cape and Torres Straits is evidence of community control and yes LNP have acknowledged this but with fork tongue."
"In September 2011 QLD LNP candidate for Cairns Gavin King entered into the debate in support of a ban to hunt dugong and turtles on reefs currently visited by tourist near Cairns."
"However both Enstch and King have also given their support to the QLD LNP Policy which states it "aims to remove the current exemption for traditional hunters from the law that makes it illegal for anyone to wound, mutilate, torture or unnecessarily prolong the death of an animal - enforceable with penalties of up to two years in jail or a $100,000 fine." Mrs Batzke said
Mrs Batzke said this policy also states, "This will bring Queensland in line with other states and territories. There is no reason to permit horrendous cruelty to dugongs and turtles, which under any other circumstance would be illegal," adds insult to injury when labelling traditional Aboriginal and Ailan custom, lores/laws and traditions as "horrendous cruelty".
Ms Batzke concluded by saying the QLD LNP's policy states the party is committed to "stop the cruel and inhumane slaughter of iconic QLD animals under the guise of 'traditional practices'," is a statement that reeks of a qasi mission manager mentality within the QLD LNP party and Indigenous people need to demonstrate their opposition to this at the polls.

Comment by Yodie Batzke on March 7, 2012 at 11:49am Hi Beverley no I have not ignored your comments as I have been away, and have had no access to internet. In response to your question, I know and the Indigenous community is aware of the bad apples in the bunch. The Indigenous community are looking at doing something about it. In the beginning (2010) this was about how Indigenous people hunt and gather etc. It still is.... nothing has change from those who have questioned how Indigenous people hunt. 2010 discussions by the former Federal Environoment Minister Peter Garret with RSPCA on developing training packages to show Indigenous people how to hunt and kill was a slap in the face to Indigenous people of this country. So please do not tell me this is not about hunting and gathering....
Comment by Beverley Prescott on February 27, 2012 at 11:30am Obviously you are not impartial to the real truth, Yodie seeing as you did not print my question to you on Saturday??
I am disappointed as I thought you would at least give your point of view on my question to you.

Comment by Robert William Nickisson on February 21, 2012 at 10:25am Hi Tony, I think you have said all that is necessary to expose this inherent politically overused ruse called cultural freedom to drive as many different wedges as possible between the Australian diverse communities. Usually for Political gain and strangely enough, there is a looming election and the ALP is reported to be in trouble. And Tony you forgot to mention removing the hand for stealing that would make it a sorry day for Craig Thomson and do you know of any of the diverse cultures that have removing the tongue for being a consistent LIAR……poor JULIAR.
And Yodie, probably before you were born 49/52 I sailed as engineer on a small Australian Shipping Board vessel around the coast of Papua New Guinea for two years as the only white engineer that would sail in those times with a half-caste (father Scotchman, mother Papuan) as Captain and we had a full Papuan crew .The skipper had a licence to enter the Pub and drink issued by the Government and so we also drank together needless to say I was seen by most as letting the side down. My only reservations on joining him as I told management when they broached the subject of me joining him a half-caste after they brought me down from a ship in Rabaul without mentioning who my skipper was to be WAS that he was a competent skipper. He proved that on our first trip from Port Moresby around the coast and into and up the Fly River. However no hard feeling from me to you in Just Grounds we are still allowed our own views and best regards Robert WN
Comment by Yodie Batzke on February 20, 2012 at 6:26pm In response to Ian, some may agree the LNP is not the same party as it was in the days when Neville Bonner won his senate seat, although he was Aboriginal, it still did not win the Indigenous votes as one would have expected. Historically Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are ALP supporters in remote areas. But inspite of the party Neville stood for, in general he was a respected by Indigenous people because of who he was as an individual not for the party he stood for.
Comment by Yodie Batzke on February 20, 2012 at 6:20pm Thank you to all who have commented on this blog. As you can see your comments have been posted regardless of content. Why? I just believe people need to educate themselve further on Aboriginal and Torres STrait Islander issues before making comments. Hence I don't take offence to comments made. I welcome debate, as it is only in this type of forum and other social networks do we gain some awareness to inform the uniformed when they display unconscience incompetence on certain issues such as those expressed by Robert WN.
Comment by Robert William Nickisson on February 20, 2012 at 11:16am Ms Batzke, Grow up! You seem to want the Aboriginal to live in the past and since none even seem to find this discussion slightly of interest in as far as furthering any Aboriginal causes, get up to date ALL Australians and I suggest Aboriginals are Australians though you may differ in opinion live in the 21st Century where all types of food is readily available and hunting and gathering for people on Government subsidies are or should be a thing of the past and best left in the past for the good of all including the Wild Life of the Country. Or is it just Political mischief making. Robert WN
I don't want to speak out of school but I think it is on record up there that Noel Pearson has thrown his cap in with the LNP and that he and Bob K have fallen out over what amounts to a shift from a white controlled committee to a black controlled committee.
I guess if their titles issued regardless of colour and Wild Rivers garbage- there wouldn't be two classes of people and it would follow - two rules for dugong(can't have it both ways. One law for all Australians and the Greens can piss off back to the inner city and their lentil sea weed shops!
Well goody. Lets have different laws for all, so we can cover every ethnic and cultural background.
Female circumcision? No problems if thats your cultural bent.
Stoning of adultresses or rape victims ? Certainly ,why not.
Arranged marriages of minors? If thats what you want
In fact lets just confine any vestige of civilised behavour laws to those of Anglo/Christian origin, and let the rest of the community follow "cultural" origins.
Apparently thats their right.
Comment by Ian Macrae Yeates on February 18, 2012 at 6:33am Hi Yodie,
Yes it could be seen that way. it's certainly not a racist thing as Neville Bonner was accorded a top spot on the LNP Senate ticket. I was introduced to him as 'here's your new boss'.
Cheers,
Ian
