Real People - facing the forgotten issues with friendship and a little fun.
Tony Abbott and Julia Gillard were getting a bit of their own medicine when confronted by the demonstrators in the Canberra restaurant on Australia Day. It strikes me the violent reaction to Tony Abbott’s reasonable words about the tent embassy were similar to the reaction to Pauline Hanson’s reasonable words about Aboriginal affairs, and other matters, when she made her maiden speech on September 10, 1996. I don’t remember Julia Gillard condemning the violent protests that occurred at Pauline Hanson’s public meetings in the late 90s – no doubt many of her own party members were among the protesters – and I seem to remember Tony Abbott was in the forefront of a movement to get Pauline Hanson’s party de-registered in Queensland.
Free speech works both ways, Julia and Tony.

Comment by kelly maddon on February 28, 2012 at 10:02pm Freedom of speech adn opinion is long gone Peter. Look around you it is rampid. We must not forget what occurred to Pauline Hansen and how the UN intervened in her "political incaceration" as claimed.... thanks for posting.
Comment by Robert William Nickisson on February 11, 2012 at 8:54am Hi Peter, I for one agree wholeheartedly with all you have written and that was gutter politics by Abbott. But Abbott love or hate him is all that stands for any hope for Australia Today so forget those days and get Abbott elected or face Australia under the rule of Julia the liar Gillard and Labor and the United Nations fast becoming the first developed country reverting to third world status and we are well on the way towards that destination under Labor at present in power. Regards Robert WN

Cheers,
Ian
