I'm reading about the $100 million Gillard and Rudd have given to the unfolding East Africa disaster where the word "compassion" is used 7 times to explain why we have given so much ( I think we are 3rd behind the US and Europe)

I was angrily surprised. Was Rudd buying a seat on the Security Council? But then I concluded that Government spending of taxpayers money is nothing at all to do with compassion. If you have guessed that it may be to do with political image, you would very close to the same conclusion, when, as  Hilary Clinton blocked the $4 billion to Iraq because much of it would be out in suitcases to Swiss bank accounts.

...unless there is a battalion of troops to deliver the aid and compassion to the cooking pots and the medical shelters.
