New ‘Regional Australia Institute’ – Located in Canberra!

Minister Crean has finally launched the new ‘Regional Australia Institute’ today, over 18 months after it was promised. This is a great idea but it's a bit of an issue when the so-called "Regional Australia" Institute has one office, located on Level 5 of 7 London Circuit, Canberra. When I think of Regional Australia, I think of dark, starry nights, long, lonely drives between towns and furry animals running across the road. I don't think of Walter Burley Griffin, a man made fountain on a…See More

Did you know if you are taken by Aerial Ambulance to Rockhampton to Hospital you are automatically taken to the Base Hospital and are not allowed to be transfered to the Mater if you have private Medical cover?? My Brother, Bruce Goodwin was air lifted to Rocky in the aerial ambulance after a horse fell on him and broke his pelvis, Our family wanted him taken to the Mater and to be in the care of Dr Kim Bulwinkel Orthopedic Surgeon. Her was denied this option and after very poor care at the Base was eventually taken back to Blackwater hospital were they have a budget of just $ 3.50 per day to feed the patients and insuffient staff!!!!! They are keeping him there for as long as they can because his Private medical cover is helping to pay the bill to run the hospital!!!! There is no one who is qualified to take an xray ( there is one at the hospital in Blackwater but no staff to use it) they have to take Bruce to Emerald Hospital an hour away for that. Then there is no Physio at Blackwater Hospital to help him get walking again and Emerald Hospital Board have taken all the equipment back to Emerald!!! He has to have a Registered Nurse to walk with him now he can walk with a frame and there is no spare staff qualified to help him. So he is left in bed for hours on end. So far he has been there about 11 weeks instead of 6-8 he should have been in The Mater where Dr Kim would have put a plate in to stablize his pelvis!!! Yes I am on my high horse the whole system is absolutely a night mare!!!! Where, when and how the hel is there ever going to be an end to this rot????? Leigh Aubrey

Hi Barnaby,
I have heard today that more and more assylum seekers are being let lose without proper testing for the diseases they bring to our country. My husband had a kidney transplant at the PA Hospital - in the very next room an Asian man who the staff said had just arrived in the country died of TB. This has to stop!!!!! Our country's medical doctors and staff worked so hard after the First World War to clean TB up now it is slowly creeping back in and this government don't give a rats cadooldle about stopping it or stopping African/Sudenese/Somali's etc bringing in mosquito born diseases into our country. Then on top of this the hospitals are under staffed and not clean... It goes on and on. Leigh

Re Environmental Flows. Now is the time to stop them and give irrigation farmers a decent water allocation against their licence so they can get a big summer crop in and play catch up for all the years of low water allocations. The dams are getting very full eg Burrinjuck, Blowring ,Burendong. I wont be suprized if it is nowhere near 100%.

Hi Barnaby,Just like to draw your attention to LPG for motor cars, there is not enough encouragement for people to convert their cars,& I even heard of an exsise tax coming on.Gas is much less polluting than petrol,& does not need any new tax,it costs a lot to convert in the first place.Thank you Warwick Richardson.

INQUIRY INTO VEGETATION MANAGEMENT LAWS!

It was heartening and yet at the same time sad to see the passion of the farmers at the Tower of Hope Rally in Canberra on Tuesday.

Clearly, they've had enough, so I am more pleased that the National Party has had a lead role in ensuring a successful outcome for getting a Senate inquiry to deal with the injustice to farming families as a result of vegetation laws.

This is unfair, unjust and regional Australian families deserve to be treated better.

When the Government steals an… Continue
