How do I ...?

How do I .... Survive the New "Flat"Earth?

(Adapted for the change from "HTML" to "beta".)

Here are instructions for how to reply to a discussion

The method you choose depends on whether you want to include a direct quote from someone.

1. If you do not want to include a quote from someone:

Type your response in the blank reply box at the top of the page and click “Add Reply”. Your post will go at the end of the thread.

OR

Click on the second “Reply to This” that appears at the very bottom left of the page. It is at the very bottom and slightly to the left. It will open a blank box. Type your response. Click “Add Reply”. Your post will go at the end of the thread.

2. If you do want to include a direct quote from someone:

Click on the “Reply to This” that appears directly under that person’s post. A box will open at the top of the page. The box will have that person’s words already in it.  Previously those words appeared as "HTML" (computer speak), however, now they appear "normal"!

Choose whether you want to include the entire quote or just a portion (in which case delete anything you don't want).  You may need to move the cursor from the beginning of the quote to the top of the reply box before you type your own words.  Click "Add Reply".  Your post will go at the end of the thread.

OR

Highlight and copy the person's words which you want to quote.  Click on the second "Reply to This" at the very bottom left of the page.  In the open blank box, hit enter a couple of times to give yourself room for your own words, and then paste the quote wherever you want.  Type your own words and click "Add Reply".  As always, your post will go at the end of the thread.

Something extra (for if you want to look really clever!)

Turn the other person's words into a true quote by highlighting and then clicking on the tab in the toolbar with the double apostrophe (quotation mark) symbol.  This will indent and italicise the other person's words.

Have fun!

Hi Dale,

I have noticed a couple of incidences of losing a post content on a page, but it still being there on 'My Page'. The avatar and name header is still there, but looks like I have deleted the content leaving a blank.

Using the restore function on My Page a couple of times allows me to access the total post, which I have copied to Notepad, then copy, paste back to the original page, of course with a later posting time.

I don't appear to be doing anything different, and I have noticed some other posters have commented on losing a post, with sometimes an accusation of being "moderated".

Just thought you should know of a possible problem.

Jeff

Thaks Dale. I am on wirless and yes it is somtimes slow but that is not the problem, actualy today it is a strong signal as for the speed I have no idea. Thanking You.
Dale Stiller Comment by Dale Stiller on September 10, 2011 at 1:56pm
Cliff, what is the speed like on your internet connection? I'm on wireless & is highly variable. When it's slow, chat & photos are the last to load up & sometimes it just doesn't happen.

The trucks have been stopped from entering the convoy rally area. I say leave the trucks on the road and go in. If the road is blocked by unmovable trucks so be it. Beat them at their own game!!!!

In Honour of all who have gone before

 Around the
 Corner I have a friend,
 In this great
 City that has no end,
 Yet the days go
 By and weeks rush on,
 And before I
Know it, a year is gone.
 And I never see
 My old mates face,
 For life is a
 Swift and terrible race,
 He knows
I like him just as well,
 As in the days
 When I rang his bell.
 And he rang
Mine but we were younger then,
 And now we are
 Busy, tired ole men.
 Tired of
 Playing a foolish game,
 Tired of trying
 To make a name.
 'Tomorrow' I
Say! 'I will call on Jim
 Just to show
 That I'm thinking of him.'
 But tomorrow
 Comes and tomorrow goes,
 And distance
 Between us grows and grows.
 Around the
 Corner, yet miles away,
 'Here's a
 Telegram sir,' 'Jim killed today.'
 And that's what
We get and deserve in the end.
 Around the
 Corner, a vanished friend.

Hello Robynne, yes I know what you mean, LOL!

There are a couple of things:

1. Go to the individual discussion that you don't want to get email alerts from and at the bottom of the main discussion post you will find a link called "Stop Following" - click on that.

2. Alternatively, if you don't want to receive any email alerts, you can adjust your personal settings - go to the box in the top R corner which has your name and inbox - click Settings - when you get to that page, click Email - that will give you all your options.

*Ideally, please make sure "receive a message from Just Grounds Community" ticked, so that we can get any important community messages out to you.

cheers,

Julene

Stop getting everyones comments inmy mail box??
Beverley Prescott Comment by Beverley Prescott on January 20, 2011 at 7:19am

Hi, Julene,

No the multiple e-mails were from one person not connected in any way to JG community.

When he turned his computer off (he has a new system - Windows 7 as well!!!!) - the problem stopped.  He is having the same problems as I am since he had to get Windows 7.

Luckily he lived not too far away and I was able to phone him - as had a few other of his recipients.   When I phoned, he knew what I was going to say.  It was the first e-mail he had sent since getting back on air with his computer.

Julene Haack Comment by Julene Haack on January 20, 2011 at 1:03am

PS.  The multiple emails - were they the site's email alerts "so and so has replied to discussion"?  I've just checked my alerts out and I don't seem to be doubling up.  I've switched to a gmail account awhile back, though, rather than using Outlook Express for alerts.  Dunno if that helps?

Julene Haack Comment by Julene Haack on January 20, 2011 at 12:49am

Hey Bev,

The computer help group was run by former management, so it disappeared back in October.  This is meant to be the replacement but, well - we haven't got very far, have we?  LOL!

Since I don't understand half of what you guys are chatting about, it could be the blind leading the blind!!  Feel free to discuss computer stuff here.  Maybe Al will sort us out ....!!

cheers

Julene

Beverley Prescott Comment by Beverley Prescott on January 17, 2011 at 7:28am

Alan,

It would be good if you put any computer advice on this thread so it is all together (IMO anyway).

I can't find the original computer advice group that was there with Agmates - maybe I have missed it somehow but just looked for it now.

Beverley Prescott Comment by Beverley Prescott on January 17, 2011 at 7:18am

Cate, Thanks for advising me of that.

Do you remember if the multiples have been occurring (from me) prior to 18th December or only after then?

I noticed Julene's at 6.57pm  last evening came twice as well.

(Jeff's three times at 5.21, 5.23 and 5.26pm.)

The mass lot from the Cairns contact was around 3.30pm - ten of those came and it was since then that I had the multiples as above.

Seems something going on yesterday.  I haven't had a problem prior to that.  Wondering if the one in Cairns left a problem in my system.

(Probably needs a liver pill).

I would be interested to know if it is since we all have Windows 7 .

Golly, I thought this was a Discussion in Forum, which had just disappeared. It's an age thing you know, but I suddenly had one of those light bulb flashes and looked up on the top bar, and there it was! Aren't you all having lovely fun!

Meanwhile, I am posting 'helpful (??) hints' on computing to myself, and the Indefatigable Cate (which is complimentary - look it up if you don't believe me) on the Eclectic Organ.

Cheers  bro' al m

Actually i get your emails a few times too Bev - not sure what that is all about...anyway, i just delete you - well, you know what i mean , the extra ones! lol

Yep, still on the floor - mind you I still remember the first clip that JeffT posted when he thought I would like it...question is does he? ( Why do people get a warped sense of humour when they are tired? Well, thats my story and I am sticking to it HA!)

Cheers Cate :)

Beverley Prescott Comment by Beverley Prescott on January 16, 2011 at 10:15pm

Oh no, Jeff!!! - I just went back to see what else I want to read before I go to bed and your e-mail came in four times as well!!  Oh hell don't tell me it is a complaint happening around this area - considering two others people have had the problem as well.

Oh - I don't want to know.  Have to look again in the morning and see what is going on.

Beverley Prescott Comment by Beverley Prescott on January 16, 2011 at 10:12pm

Oh, Cate, forgot to say I love the song title!!  LOL.  Hope you have picked yourself up off the floor by now.

RE my post down below on January 3rd at 11.02 a.m.

- well that was the Modem - no worky.  Had it tested at the computer shop here.  I suppose everything wears out after a while - I got it with the Broadband package in 2006 or 7.

A new one of those like I had is $99 so looks like one of them coming up.  This bloke who is going to sell me Outlook and install it, sells generic modems for much less it seems.  Not sure whether to trust him or go for the Telstra one which is suitable for ADSL 2 - which I doubt we get but it worked for me!!
