Editorial Policy

Just Grounds is a self-publishing website.  This means that (in theory) members can post any discussion or comment that they wish.

Moderation is carried out by means of “post-moderation” (that is, after publication on the site) except in the case of Blogs, which require pre-approval.

There are some restrictions however, and we do ask that members follow the guidelines below, to minimise post-moderation, as all Moderators are volunteers.

Restrictions on Format:

We ask that, when members post a new Forum Discussion or Blog, they do not:

a) Post just a single line or sentence of text;

b) Post just a link without any text.

You do not need to write a long spiel.  We would like to see a minimum of about two paragraphs and 100 words.  Think in terms of writing a Letter to the Editor.  Of course, if you write more, that is good, too.

When posting links at any time, please make a comment about the content of the link or your opinion of the link, as this makes it more likely that other members will read it.

Restrictions on Content:

1.  We do not like to see multiple Forum Discussions or Blogs on the SAME topic filling up our lists.  This pushes good quality discussions on OTHER topics off the main page and out of sight.

Therefore, before posting a new discussion or blog, please look around to see what else is current and, if the topic is already present, add your input to a pre-existing discussion or blog.

To look around for pre-existing discussions/blogs, do the following:

a)  Click on the Main tab (at the very top left corner) of each page – once on the main page, scroll down the lists in the right hand column.  This will show you the 20 Forum discussions with recent activity and the 5 Blogs with recent activity; and also

b)  Click on the Forum tab or Blog tab (at the very top middle) of each page – once there, put your topic into the search box.  This will show you whether there is a pre-existing discussion on your topic.

2. Any content that you post, either in starting a new posting or in commenting on a pre-existing discussion/blog, must comply with the Terms of Use.

The Terms of Use can be read here:  http://justgroundsonline.com/page/terms-of-use

A full list of proscribed actions includes abuse, trolling, posts that would not be suitable for viewing by minors, and copyrighted material.

3. Specifically regarding copyright, we suggest that you do the following if you wish to quote from another source:

a)  provide the following information (as available) – name of author, name of publication, date, and the online link;

b)  include no more than 2-3 paragraphs of the original work, or one third of the original work, whatever has the least length, and indicate that these are a direct quote by using quotation marks, italics, or our “quote function”;

c)  provide your own thoughts and comments before and/or after the quote.

Even though many journals and newspapers are freely available online, you MUST NOT copy and paste entire articles from these.  (See discussion by Roger Rankin Crook for further information http://justgroundsonline.com/forum/topics/copyright-law-just-ground... )

4.  As much as possible, please provide sources for your information and opinions.

If unable to do so, other members will be appreciative if you indicate, “In my opinion ….” or “I think ….”

5.  At Just Grounds, we do have a list of topics which can only be discussed in our group called Just Opinions http://justgroundsonline.com/group/thetruthers and NOT elsewhere:
