In the past it has been the case that Green preferences have been directed to the Labor Party.
Why is this so? Why is the Labor Party so wonderful that they should enjoy this privilege?
The Labor Party is dominated by trade unionists and urban bureaucrats that have little if any rapport with the environment, or the farmers who produce the food we eat.
All sensible people are environmentalists and we do our bit to preserve the local environment for everyone to enjoy. The Greens are like the Nationals in the sense they want to be different from the other two major parties, the Liberal and the Labor Parties. Also, remember, the Greens have 5 Senators to the Nationals 4 , so the Greens are a force not to be ignored.
I would be more impressed with the Greens if they did not specify where preferences were to be directed in any coming election. It is really like a choice of religions....Protestant, Catholic or Moslem etc. Let the Green supporter decide where his or her vote should go.
I am not a supporter of any Green Party, in fact I can not vote because I am a New Zealand citizen, but I am concerned about the future prosperity of Australia, and South Australia in particular, where I am a permanent resident. You don't have to be a member of a Green organization to be concerned about the environment, as shown by my recent popular article
on the Helium web site entitled "Little everyday things that can help the environment".
We Agmate people are interested to know how Green preferences are determined, and the reasoning why they should be determined at all.
