Senator Milne

Senator Joyce has just posted on this site an interesting piece on the effect of an ETS on Gladstone.

Would you or Sen Bob Brown, care to comment?

If either of you do, would you also include your views on the potential for a similar effect on Western Australia?

In my experience the Greens tip toe around alot of issues and stall for time to see which way the votes will go.
Like Fluoride (environmental poison/ toxin), they do not challenge it.
They say a referendum should be held.
Fair enough but they decline to comment on their position in regard to it.
Fence sitting...
Lets see how they go when they are made of razor wire when the World Bank takes over.
Profit will come before all... even whales.
I don't know what you are talking (writing) about Russell. Again!

Say what you mean, man, for goodness sake!!

Otherwise go and start your own group, could be called... "Guess what I really Mean?

Then you can write to and answer yourself.
Really Roger,
OK here we go with a translation.
In my experience the Greens tip toe around alot of issues and stall for time to see which way the votes will go.
Means the Greens (in my experience) won't commit to a stance on many issues, instead waiting for the voters to make up the Greens minds for them...

Well if you read that bit nice and slow you should be right. :-)

They say a referendum should be held.
That bit too.

I agree with the referendum part but they will not say if they are proflouride, antiflouride or they don't give a stuff either way.

If you use your imagination it will set you free on this one.

Lets see how they go when they are made of razor wire when the World Bank takes over.
This is a reference about the fences on the previous line being made of razorwire and the fact that they would likely be awkward and uncomforatable if not down right dangerous to sit on. The World Bank part is a reference to the general lack of consideration and disdain the World Bank and it's various Guises have for common people that they would set up razorwire in populated areas.

Profit will come before all... even whales.
And finally this means I believe that the world bank is more concerned with profit than the Greens highly respected Whales and that if there were some sizable amounts of money to be made from processing whales then they would.
So the Greens would then likely be saddened by their support of globalisation...

Hows that?
No one means all he says, and yet very few say all they mean, for words are slippery and thought is viscous

Thank you, Russell, it is good of you to take the time to explain to this senior citizen the more subtle ways there are of explaining oneself and one's views.

I haven't been around for long enough, Russell, to have any idea what this means. Imagine that?

Thanks anyway
I would love to see Christine or Bob ( or even on of their staff) acknowledge that they have an active group here .

We may not agree but will respect their point of view and for having the manners to respond.

It does seem that it is the same old suspects on every post but members are growing slowly and it is the 30 or 40000 unique visitors to the site each month that makes it important to present ones ideas and explain them.
If we fail to do that it is hard to have credibility.
:-)
In the way of quotes I always like this one.
It's a bit long winded, maybe that is why I like It.

"Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull
and ignorant; They too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; It is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; Many persons strive for high
ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the council of the years, Gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a healthy discipline, Be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here, and whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God, Whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy."

Hi Jeff,
Thankyou for the author and the link.
I was taking the mickey out of myself with the long winded bit, one should never take ones self too seriously.

And it is Beautiful and inspiring.

Back to the ETS

Taxes are usually over burdening and under provide to everyone except the "engaged" companies that "assist" us with the purpose the tax was originally created to provide.

The ETS would be a Hum Dinger no matter what was affecting the Environment. Supporting few (the Pollutors) and punishing everyone else.

And when does Tax stop being Tax?
Can the Tax Office chase up Governments that waste and clowningly throw away Tax money?

Common Sense is a misleading term, as such that it doesn't seem to be that Common!
