Firstly thanks to anyone interested enough to be looking here.I had to do a similar summary for an article in the ABA journal last year so will use some of it to save me time. Mitchell, StGeorge,Cunnamulla and Charleville form a sizable rectangle and we sit roughly in the middle on Mungalala creek. Our property area is 40000 acres, considered to be an average living area with a 16 inch rainfall . ( we are averaging under 12 this decade). Timber with box ,Wilga,Sandalwood,Ironbark,A little Pine and Mulga. The soil is mainly Red Loam.
Traditionally this district has always been sheep country and we av 150 bales for 20 odd years but with the demise of wool ind and drought we are down to a truck load , about 60. I would guess that this area has swung from75% sheep to 85% cattle over the last ten years. We are solely a breeding property and bulls and rams are the only stock I have bought in the last 29 years with the exception of a B-double of merino ewes i bought last year to boost no. Had a calamity with lambing sickness!
We get our merino rams from Peter Hacker's "Roselea" stud, Texel rams from Peter Hood's "Plainview"stud at Pittsworth and Border Liester rams from Richard Pietch's stud at Stanthorpe. Black bulls nowday come mainly from "Lawsons Angus" at Yea in VIC (bought 8 beauties the other day).Have alot of Landfall,Hazeldean, TeMania bloodlines We have always bought high marbling EBV bulls and since they are all made in a test tube now - I go after full or half brothers to get a mould on the type I want.
We market the strs to feedlot at 4-500kg direct, mainly to Oakey Holdings-Whyalla and to BeefCity-Toowoomba. Both Russell Handley and Brett Campbell have been very fair to me over the years. Have about 150 strs coming on that I wll try on my E-trader page for a first. We weaned 500odd calves in May and they are going beautifully. Unfortunately I had to sell the lot of last years heifer drop to the feedlots but intend to keep 250 to go with the570 cows.
The ewes are lambing now and will have offspring from -
500 merino:Border Liester
150BLM :texel
750Merino:texel Later on E-trader. Will keep 250 BLM ewe Lambs for future,
The property is pretty well developed with a lot of Gayndah and American buffel grass with approx three quarters stick raked. we have a new artesian bore(600m) and about 90kms of polypipe in to 90 troughs plus20 earth dams. There are over 40 paddocks with six wire suspension with two barb. We have done some blade ploughing and cutter barring and this really gets the pasture going overnight.
This is probably enough info for now. On the family level Leanne and I have Jack 22,Ross 20,and Donna18 who all love the place and are pretty capable.

Just back from a run to Charleville in truck-took 220 feral goats up. Have knocked around this area all my life and I don't think I have ever seen it so quiet and sleepy. Road good for a change and season not bad for mid winter!
Did 400kms neat and didn't pass another vehicle all the way. I know it is Sunday but.......

Al Gore has arrived and already the path is set to the coffers of the Super funds. Heads up all........this is REALLY where it has to be stopped first before he gets his grubby hands on our retirement funds!
