I have one question here why do we need this "Delbessie Agreement" when we had a perfectly functioning leasehold land system in place already. One would have to suspect it is to some how help the Qld government in its demise. Bearing in mind we are virtually dealing with a bankrupt institution which is going to become increasing desperation the future It could hold dire consequences for the land holder involved.

Hi All, When I see Hardhat Anna in a cowboy hat with Aila Keto, the name that rings a bell who in combination with Geoff Richardson and Paul Keating got Northern rainforest World Heritage listed and closed down the timber industry in Far North Queensland. This was about Green preferences in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. If you read Dale Stiller blog July 7th 2009 (Noel Pearson at Property Rights Aust conference: A landmark speech) you will see that the Wilderness Society has a big influance in the Enviroment Department of the Qld Government which has refused to renew leeses on Cape York when the leese has run out. The land they have transferred to Aborigionals is useless to them because of Wild Rivers Legislation introduced at the behest of the Wilderness society so as to pick up the green vote or preferences for the Labor Party in the South East Corner. I've also seen Aila Keto name involved with the Pew Foundation of California in the enviromental listing of the whole Coral sea.

Hi Nelson,
If you look further, you will also find Nature Conservancy / The Nature Conservancy are linked to The Wilderness Society and Pew Foundation. If I remember rightly WWF is in there as well.

The Nature Conservancy is well and truly in bed with the Federal Government. If you Google "The Nature Conservancy Australia" you'll see a Government letterhead of the Dept Environment etc - Peter Garrett's portfolio. In that search you will find descriptions and pictures of areas they have "saved."

In the US The Nature Conservancy (TNC) are known to be "realestaters", a title applying to buying up farmland, grazing land and open range and turning it into green areas.
I have covered this before on several posts.

The other worry about Anna Blight is the recent statement that if the ETS doesn't get in, Queensland may have to go it alone and introduce a Qld ETS. Just what you need, a DIY ETS.

Thanks for that, Dale.  From the point of view of those who are not familiar with Delbessie this is a learning curve. Part of the McNamara's property has been ceded to the State as a nature reserve.

I have a feeling that a Qld-only ETS would be able to be repealed by the Federal Government if Anna is elected a second time which I see as highly unlikely and is silly enough to try it,as I can see the current labor government lasting beyond the next election.

You want to know what's really funny about the naming of the Delbessie Agreement?  The Delbessie Agreement is only relevant for land that is leased for a term of years - Pastoral Holdings and term leases for grazing over 100 ha.  Delbessie Station is a Grazing Homestead PERPETUAL Lease.  Which means it would never be captured by the Delbessie Agreement because it will never expire and thus never come up for renewal which is when all the Delbessie stuff about good condition, indigenous access and use agreements, future conservation areas etc. come into play. 

I found it hilarious that an agreement about lease renewals was signed on and named after a lease that will never be subject to it.
