UNSAFE POLICE INTERCEPTIONS.

It has been bought to my attention by NRFA members that on the night of the 20th January 2010 the Police had the Bruce Highway blocked at Ettamogah exit having all traffic diverted to the off ramp where they stopped them for drug and breath testing, log book checks and length checks. The only warning was when one then the other lane was closed by police cars and witches hats. I feel this is creating a huge safety risk when there is the Burpengary weighbridge sites a little further down the road where all vehicles could exit safely and the area is has adequate lighting. I think it is time police are held accountable for their actions when intercepting in an unsafe manner.

This happens not only for drug and DD testing but on many ocasions I have seen ploice pull vechiles up in unsafe areas that put other road users at risk , I have even stopped and told the police to move the vechiles to a safe place to which they take a very dim view of being told what to do , Poloice like all other people have a DUTY of care and must obay the road rules like all of the rest of us , If you catch them doing the wrong thing record the Time Date Place and get photos if you can and report them to ethical standars and the CMC . If they breach the Work Place Health and Safety act , Report them to Work Place health and safety ,

Darryl, I agree. We already have enough accidents and loss of life on our roads. This type of situation is highly dangerous particularly on a freeway so close to the checking station. The above actions need to be clearly documented by those who eyewitnessed the situation with photographic support if possible and then taken with (I feel) association support to higher authorities. Second hand accounts are no use as you finish up with a distorted I said He said story.

I must add that as for myself I have found police do their best to exercise care in most cases to the point I have been asked to keep going and pull over where safe to do so.

Most police do practice safe interceptions however I am led to beleive this is the task force and they think they are a law to themselves. I find most police officers and transport inspectors that intercept me are very certous and safety concious.
I think you are correct in saying the eye witnesses need to photograf and document this so we can take this to the senior officers
