This newsletter was sent to me to explain the fine detail of the Carbon Dioxide Tax re trucking.

It is obviously complex with the main line haul companies being exempt for two years then....?

There are exemptions there for on road Livestock Transporters which flies in the face of what a ceo of a large co told me  re his projected liability!!??

It is clear that ALL off road Agriculture is copping it from July 1st next year and not a whimper from our industry leaders.

It is clear that we are begging and bargaining for an exemption to keep the status quo for a corrupt scheme. The productive world has gone mad if they cop this!

AgForce conferenece to tackle global food supply issue

Queensland producer group AgForce will tackle the issue of global food supply and the role agriculture plays in a rapidly changing world at its 2011 conference on the Sunshine Coast in September. Elanco Global Director Food Industry and Consumer Affairs Mike McCarty and New Zealand Farmer of the Year Doug Avery will share their views on the role Australia plays in the secure and profitable production of food and fibre in a national and international context.
The two-day ‘What will we eat? … making food security the global priority’ conference is on 15-16 September, and is preceded by a local industry tour on 14 September. For further details www.agforceqld.org.au

Road pricing reform unfair on ag: VFF

The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) says it is concerned that moves by the National Transport Commission to reform road pricing do not take into account the unique nature of agricultural freight.  “The proposed changes to road pricing will require all heavy vehicles to have a GPS device to track movements, which we do not believe is reasonable for farm based freight,” Acting VFF President Peter Tuohey said. “There will be a direct cost for the GPS technology to be installed in every vehicle and also an administration cost associated with calculating the distance and location of freight movements, both of which are unwieldy costs for farmers to bear. We simply do not believe that the distance-location pricing is realistic for the on-farm fleet that only travels this far each year, compared to the hundreds of thousands of kilometres travelled by commercial freight.”

Here we have the two contrasting Orgs.

This limp d..k mob at Agforce who are going to spend two days discussing motherhood statements about where food comes from. Same mob who couldn't even find time to put in a submission to the Carbon Farming Initiative - discussion paper(72 did but 97% were green groups). Same mob that could not raise a single Press Release about the effect of the Co2 Tax on its members

Hi Rob,

The ATA and AGFORCE are run by what I call Private Sector Beaurecrats that have no grasss roots level knowlege of what really happens to the people on the ground.  They are so tied up in their own importance. Firstly when any accociation accepts funding from any government they are comprimised in what they can say or do, Secondly if you are going to represent an industry you need to be part of that industry as all the Board members of the NRFA are, this is what makes the NRFA stand out from other so called industry organisations.  I beleive Property Rights Australia are doing the same for land owners of this country.  I would incourage people to become part of organisations that are founded and run by people that know the industry and are prepared to stand up for their respective industries.

Hi Cate,

Heavy vehicle registration has already increased excessively over the past 2 years.  The Location/Distance/Mass charge the ATA and COAG propose will affect remote and regional Australia suverly.  From What I can understand of the proposal Location: If you are using one of the major freight corridors, in other words the highways between capital cities, you will have less charge than using what they term a secondry highway, which is where yet again the people that live in all regional and remote areas of australia are going to pay dearly.  Distance: Again because the distance to reach most regional and remote communities and properties there will be added cost here as well.  Mass: This will affect most freight other than cubic freight such as some paper goods and plastic where there is no condensed weight however freight such as stock feed, most groceries, meats, building materials where there is a lot of weight will again attract more charges.  The NRFA has put a much fairer proposal to the Henry Tax review where registrations would be reduced to a minimum and a fuel based charge would apply.  This is available in detail on the NRFA website and also on the ATO web site under the henry tax review.

The idea of a fuel based charge is every one would be paying for their usage rather than people that use their heavy vehicles less currently are cross subsidising the major companys that are using Shuttle drivers around the clock.  Most owner drivers doing long distance work average somewhere between 190000 km to 250000 km per year where some company trucks are clocking inexcess of 350000 km per year and we currently pay the same amount to register our vehicles. Over the past couple of years All states and territories other than Western Australia have increaded heavy vehicle registrations in accordance with COAG AND NTC (National Transport Commission) recomendations.  This has already caused transport operators to increase charges to their customers to stay in business.  The exact amount transport has to increase can not be determined until we see the amount they want to charge for these new proposals.

Hey big fella, how are you? lol Alright, Mr President, i will behave.

Can you please put here how the costs of the registration will go up with the flow on effects to the trucking fraternity, and be passed onto people (like us graziers / farmers) who depend on freight?

How many trucking families will struggle, due to the Carbon tax? (140 k wasnt it?)

Cheers Cate

PS Even PRA has to occasionally clean out the wayward members - a good cull is always a cleansing feeling - get rid of ignorant people i say...er...what happened to "Judas"...more to the point what SHOULD have happened to him :)?
