Hi All,
I would like to encourage you to take a moment to read my article here on agmates regarding Quita Docking. Shes an amazing young woman who had a serious horse accident that nearly took her life only to recover and just finish a 500km ride for charity. The story is Quitas Quest and its in the Forum section of the site.
Cheers

Hi Everyone,
I am heading off on one of lifes journeys. I am raising an orphan foal. She is a couple of months old and so far unhandled. This afternoon I discovered her mother "sleeping peacfully" with baby not sure how to wake her up. So our little friend will be coming up to the house to live with the orphan donkey who has been raised by people and the adventure shall begin. Im sure she'll fit in with all the "kids" and be scrambling to the feed buckets with the crew in no time. :-)

Hi Everyone,
I thought I'd share a moment of my life with you. This morning I woke to the sound of hooves on concrete. I sat up in bed thinking 'hmmm that sounds like a horse but its in the house" Imagine my surprise to find my mare had pushed her way in and invaded the house with her foal in tow. They were examining the furniture and trashing the lounge room when I disturbed their morning adventure. Good thing she is very quiet and allowed me to escort mother and son out of my house and back on the lawn where they belong, not before the foal had knocked a chair over and nearly wiped out the table in fright. Seems life in the paddock was boring and the "peoples stable" was in need of inspection. :-) Only in the bush!

Hello Everyone,
For the Australia Day celebrations a neighbour of ours hosted a local informal, invite only, gymkana. We had the usual thrills and spills, with barrel racing, rescue races, bending and apple bobbing for kids and adults alike. I would recommend these events for many horsey communities, its a great way to break up tension and have a day away from the farm. The day was great fun for riders and spectators alike, the most amusing event being the novelty race which consisted of a team of 2 and a horse. the rules are simple: Gallop bareback 100m, scull a warm beer, remount gallop back carrying a cold pie, give that to your partner to eat while you saddle up, gallop 100m back to the finnish with your partner both on the same horse. Needless to say there were plenty of laughs. I hope everyone else had a great Australia Day.

Hi Jody,
I agree, an allrounder is a great horse. I like unusual colours (buckskins, roans and taffys) and versatility in my horses. My working horses barrel race for fun, some teach learners, on the station we muster, cut, campdraft, pony, trail while fence checking and throw or bump runaway cattle. Some horses are better than others at different aspects but all should be capable. Knowing their leads and travelling off the forehand as well as proper jumping ability can mean the difference between catching a beast on scrub and landing on your head. Thats why I love my QH, Waler, Brumby ASH horses.

G'day All
I love reading about all your horses and activities. It is great that everyone is so varied in what they do with their horses. I love all horse sports and a horse for me should be able to have a go at everything. Especially stallions. I breed mostly sprint quarter horses with a bit of working bloodlines chucked in. The horse in my profile pic is Sunny Lena (the working blood) and the lady on him is Dena Kirkpatrick a very successful barel racer from the states. She wanted to try out a swinging fender stock saddle. A couple of weeks prior to this clinic I had dressage lessons with dressage coach Ron Paterson. So by the time Sunny and I went barrel racing he was on fire. Sunny hadn't run drums prior to this. He made the transition happily. This year I will be including some roping onto his list of talents as he has had a go at cutting when he was younger and some campdrafting as well as mustering. Happy trails everyone.

Hi Leanne,
Yeah mine are work horses. I contract muster and run our own property so I need reliable tough horses that can cover the country and go all day. I train them in a similar manner to endurance horses with stockwork thrown in. I am currently trying to teach a mare barrel racing but so far its more like reining with big sliding stops on the wet training area lol.
I have looked at your website and am very impressed by your horses. I simply love the silver colt!! What a stunning boy! with looks like that who wouldnt want to show them! :-)

Sounds like you would have some good working horses, then, Rashida. Most of mine are just pretty 'show pony' types - bred & built to work but they don't get too much of a chance to do real work, just shows.
