B'HI was quite excited to receive this email and had a great idea as I did not know that Cate lives near Charleville. I grew up on a place called Elverston Station. You might have heard of it. If…Continue

Comment by Cate Stuart on May 7, 2013 at 8:21pm Hey, get a load of this sent to me today by one of our guests here to Mt Morris Station - wow, very humbling indeed that they feel like this:)
I asked Andrew if he could help me out with some guests from Spain later on in the year, and help answer any of Jorge's questions from another guests perspective, and this is what he wrote below.
Hi Cate and Jorge,
Jorge as stated, my name is Andrew Fairclough. Myself
and 3 friends ( 1 bowhunter and 3 rifle hunters) visited "Mount Morris" station
in November of 2012 on a hunting trip for 7 days. It was our first time to
"Mount Morris" and our first time to Queensland. Between the 4 hunters we saw
about 40 pigs, shot 20 pigs ( 2 with the bow), 3 feral cats, 1 feral dog and
caught numerous carp for the 7 days we were there.
Mark and Cate are the
owners of the station "Mount Morris" and they are excellent hosts and were very
helpful with answering any questions and excelled to help us in any way they
could. They personally drove us around the property to show us points of
interest where the game had been active as well as telling us about the history
of the station. prepared our trophy tusks for us by boiling them down. they did
whatever they could to make our stay as enjoyable as they could.
We did a
variety of hunting while on the station, we had the opertunity to walk along the
stretch of river in a spot and stalk situation with great sucess shooting 6 pigs
using this method. the other method we used was sitting at dams and watering
holes at dawn or dusk waiting for the pigs to arrive. we shot most of the pigs
this way and also driving slowly around the property.
The accomodation
was in the managers house with a shower and laundry, a large living area with a
TV and plenty of room to leave all your gear and a kitchen with a
fridge/freezer, sink and a stovetop to do all you cooking.
We flew over
to Brisbane from Perth (Western Australia) and hired a 5 seater utility from
Brisbane. the car hire company that we used were Fleetcrew (http://www.fleetcrew.com.au/portfolio-items/toyota-dual-cab-hilux-u...) We
paid around $1000 to hire the utility for 8 days (hunting time plus 10 hours
drive each way)
We got all of our supplies from Charleville including
food, fuel, drinks.
Overall we have an excellent time during our stay at
"Mount Morris" we saw lots of feral game as well as an abundance of other
wildlfe including kangaroos, emus, echidna, carpet pythons and thousands of
birds all over the station. I would highly recommend visiting "Mount Morris" if
you are looking for a visit to the Australian outback to discover a bit
of Australian history and to hunt Australian feral game.
If I can be of
any more assistance please don't hesitate to
ask
Regards
Andrew

Okay, so your favorite is the first clip - good-o its hard for me to decide, either way, Camerons music is great - you can actually have a conversation while he is playing too - great ambience music - he has a great variety as well, just love his style to bits. Thanks for the feedback, its important..Did i mention, Cameron Oates is a Melbourne Lad!!!! Very neat :)

Comment by Barbara lee on May 7, 2013 at 3:39pm wow Cate enjoyed the video clips, the music was just right, it allowed you to take in the photo, felt as if we were back there, can still remember as though it was yesterday. The music was soft and you really felt Mount Morris. Can still see those emu's and still laugh about doing what we'd had done. Still can see the dam you saved. Can even hear you telling that brilliant story on the front veranda. Can remember when we first pulled up, and we hug for the first time. I'll always carry that, and it’s all written in a journal of our trip to the gulf, all about Mount Morris and yourself, just finished it this week in fact, left one page for a photos. You gave us a memory of a life time. When we finally got home and having told the story heaps of times, our friends were envious and couldn't work out how did I get there. So explained just grounds gave me the opportunity to met Cate, all so was the highlight of our trip seeing Mount Morris. So glad we didn't miss out in not seeing this wonderful unique Mount Morris.
Comment by Cate Stuart on May 6, 2013 at 9:52pm Here is the second clip lots more family pics in this one of our ancestors - little bit nostalgic for me putting these together. Cameron Oates will be on tour for the next 2 years around Australia - so keep an eye out for him, you will totally love his unique sound - and you can say you heard it here first! :)
Comment by Cate Stuart on May 6, 2013 at 9:50pm Okay gang, which one of these do you prefer - Mt Morris now has its own musician Patron, Cameron Oates - this is his version of Waltzing Matilda - and it is mesmeriszing. (?) All the pictures are connected to Mt Morris, many taken on here, while others of my ancestors dating back to the late 1700's/ early 1800's here in Australia..am I native to this land yet? lol
There are two clips - watch both and give me some feedback please, would be appreciated :)
Comment by Cate Stuart on April 10, 2013 at 11:23am Also have been encouraged to start a facebook group site on Mt Morris - for those whom are face book, you may like to "like" the group if you are so inclined - some good things happening there as well :)
Comment by Cate Stuart on April 10, 2013 at 11:22am Hi all, back again for a few moments - life on the station is very hectic at the moment - its dry, very dry. Word about the district is that the assessors have been out to see if the area should be drought declared..i think it will be. We here have 2/3rds of the station "shut up" - so we do have a lot of dry feed - luckily.
Comment by Cate Stuart on March 4, 2013 at 5:57pm Its raining - finally at "Morrie'! But, the poor people of Gympie, and on the coast are getting a caning again :(
