Real People - facing the forgotten issues with friendship and a little fun.
I am just getting started in the seat of Brisbane Central!
I have a track record of success to win the fight!
I was a founding member of the Brisbane Association for Rates Equity who fought and won significant rates reductions after the scandalous rates hikes. The fight was massive and thanks to the support of the Brisbane Central community, dedicated team members and a couple of brave unit owners who put their own financial security on the line, we won a significant winding back of the savage rates increases.
I have decided to run at the state election as an Independent candidate (for BRISBANE CENTRAL) to try to give the residents of Brisbane Central a choice, a voice and a reason to rejoice!
But I need help!
Running as an independent is massive undertaking. My biggest challenge is that the big parties have big marketing budgets which I cannot compete against.
As an independent, I'm self funding and certainly feel like the underdog. However, I do believe that people do want honest, accountable, and genuine representation from our politicians and I hope I have demonstrated that I can provide that if I win.
I am running because I think I can win, and because I think the people of BRISBANE CENTRAL need a change of pace.
THEREFORE, I need to ask one final thing from the community to help me continue this fight on your behalf.
I need the following:
- Six people in the Brisbane Central electorate to "nominate" me as being a fit person to stand for Parliament
- Fences (in BRISBANE CENTRAL electorate) to place signage on (My signs look great!)
-Volunteers to help deliver flyers to the BRISBANE CENTRAL electorate
- 30 Polling day volunteers to hand out "How To Vote" cards. This is just for polling day (24th March 2012).
Another important way you can really help my campaign is by sending letters to the editor of the following papers and tell the public about:
If you think I did a good job, please tell the community so they know what they'll get if they vote for me. You can easily contact the following papers to tell them your story:
Courier Mail: Click HERE, HERE, HERE or HERE
Brisbane Times: Click HERE or HERE
City News: Click HERE
The Independent: Click HERE
New Farm Village News: Click HERE
BMag: Click HERE
The Australian: Click HERE
From my door knocking so far, I'm finding people are joyful to find someone WORTH voting for. I'm still going to be challenged getting around to thousands of voters before the election so letters in the paper will definitely help spread the word.
I would really appreciate any help you could give.
If you can help, please email me on brisbanecentral@queenslandparty.org.au and let me know, or ring me on 0407-580-028.
If you can't help, please let me thank you once again for your support for The Queensland Party.
Please forward this email on. Membership is still free!
The Queensland Party is still growing.
I will be putting up a "Donate" button online so that those generous and helpful souls who wish to, can donate directly to my campaign.
Regards
Ruth Bonnett

Permalink Reply by Greg Blackmore on February 12, 2012 at 3:20pm Good luck with your campaign Ruth. Notice that, as the secretary, you were able to get the Queensland party on your promo material. No doubt this refers to the celebration party in Queensland, after the election, and then, hopefully, you and others may be able to have the party ratified as a political party. Cheers Greg
Permalink Reply by Ruth Bonnett on February 13, 2012 at 6:50am Thanks very much Greg. I smell a hint of desparation on the part of Grace Grace. Have a look at the advertisement in the New Farm Village News and the Independent here. She has asked some of her strongest supporters to tell the world they are backing her. Ouch.
Labor needs to reassess how they just blindly accept the Greens preference deals without public scrutiny. That is how we have ended up with such ruinous laws. No scrutiny. No debate. Secret deals. Shabby politicians.
As Secretary of a large body corporate, we don't shut down our critics. We engage with them. As Independent candidate for Brisbane Central, I will strive to do the same. It is the public airing of ideas which can deliver the best policy.
