Permalink Reply by Beverley Prescott on February 4, 2012 at 8:09pm Have you checked out Qld Party on Wikipedia, Ruth? For some reason I just did after reading the above.
I wonder how they keep up with all that goes on??
Is David Thompson a candidate as well?
Permalink Reply by Beverley Prescott on February 5, 2012 at 8:01am Ruth, are you standing as an Independent now then?
Also I am wondering if you want Anna Bligh to continue as Premier. Only asking because you are obviously campaigning against Campbell Newman.
We cannot afford another term with Labor in charge.
Permalink Reply by Beverley Prescott on February 8, 2012 at 12:29pm I take it that is a yes then.
A huge pity.
The name of the the game is to change government after two decades in most peoples' opinions.
Permalink Reply by Joanne Rea on February 8, 2012 at 2:27pm People are inevitably going to vote for minor parties.
As long as people use their preferences and not just mark 1 even if the major parties do not allocate preferences they will have their say.
I have seen every permutation of wasting votes claimed but if people think about their voting and how preferences are allocated they will not waste a vote .
As long as people don't take the easy option and vote for an environmental party because they are sick of the other major parties or just vote 1 all will be OK.

I'm not sure what the major parties are planning withrespect to preferences. They are so far pretty quiet on the matter but it doesn't hurt to be prepared with some knowledge
Optional Preferential Voting (OPV) has been used in Queensland State elections since 1992. OPV is a unique voting system giving voters a choice to vote for one candidate, more than one or, all candidates on the ballot paper. Voters can cast a valid vote by either:
• expressing a single primary preference for one candidate only (marking only one square, leaving all the others blank)
• expressing a partial distribution of preferences by voting for some, but not all candidates on the ballot paper (marking some but not all squares)
• expressing a full distribution of preferences (marking each and every square in order of preference)."
Permalink Reply by Ruth Bonnett on February 12, 2012 at 3:19pm Hello Beverley,
Thank you very much for asking that question: who would I support if I was in a 'balance of power' position?
I would have to weigh up the policy positions of each of Anna Bligh, Campbell Newman, (or the leader of the LNP should Newman not win his seat), or any other candidate that was in a position to form government.
As an Independent candidate my first and only priority is the electorate of Brisbane Central.
I would not simply back the government whose colour I prefer.
Part of the process would be to recognise the importance of change, and to see out those in government who have led us down this path, including the blind acceptance of ruinous policy of minor parties, the 'follow the leader' mentality of this government who has not put up a fight against the federal initiatives that could adversely impact Queenslanders, and the likelihood of sharing democratic power with all Queenslanders.
I am more than likely to support a moderate government that does not pander to minor parties without subjecting their policies to the harsh glare of public scrutiny.
Permalink Reply by Beverley Prescott on February 12, 2012 at 3:33pm Most of what you have said there means you would not support Anna Bligh as Labor has held Queensland to ransom for two decades - They have shown what they have done for all that time so it is pretty obvious what their policies are.
Can anyone seriously believe that if they promise anything new at the eleventh hour, anyone would believe them?
However, you have campainged vigorously against Campbell Newman who is representing LNP.
Maybe you will have to support the Katter Party who actually defied the Queensland Party.

Permalink Reply by Joanne Rea on February 17, 2012 at 7:36pm This backflip by the LNP on Wild Rivers policy is one of the reasons that people will vote for independents and KAP.
If the dark greens are still going to have a choke hold on us we will have been let down by the people we have shown support for over many years.
The only people who care about Wild Rivers legislation are a few dark green hardliners. Most people in urban electorates neither know nor care about the issues related to this legislation but it has been panned by many groups and the Greens have garnered support by falsely claiming that it will protect against mining and CSG exploitation.

Have I missed something?
Also have you seen the well explained post re preferential voting on the Turnbull and Katter discussions?
Very well explained by James Darby.
