The last paragraph Stephen clearly illustrates the issues of the present. Too many elected who prove to be short on life experience, education, morality and the talent to exercise their primary responsibilities as custodians of the Nation.

It is long overdue that a CV of an aspiring candidate should be published one month before an election and that CV should show that the candidate has qualities at least equal to that required as CEO of a public listed company.

It is only then that we will progress beyond the stifling inconsequence of the "Craig Thomsons" and the "Sarah Hanson-Youngs" of our destiny.

How dare Society allow any individual to sit in judgement of another that is why we in theorey have a Jurist system.

I do not even believe in a number of Judges making a decision based on Numbers the whole idea of such individuals being beyond reproach and in no way under political Influence from any quarter including their own political leanings as they all have them is simply pipedream rubbish aqnd needs to be done away with for there to be any future for the system worth it.

Considering Worldwide where there is a Western based system the Judiciary are always biased and all carry their own leanings the system has to always include the standard of peer review outside of the Judicial system and always with the ability to discharge an overriding vote of No confidence in Judicial decisions.

Society as a whole shall be the Judge not any minority group or individual for that is the only way to bring respect into the system,No respect and the system will fail.

We have seen the fall of Civilisations in the past and it mainly comes when Society as a whole has lost faith in Fair and equitable due process being enabled and followed.

Simply put Ashby should have had his day in Court without any political interference from any party,The decision should have been enacted by a Jury and considering the importance of the Position held or even if the accused held any public position simple rules that should apply to all from Top to Bottom as representatives of the greater Society as a whole they when found guilty automatically lose both Position and Priveledge then and there.

The thought of losing both Position and retaining only any monies personally contributed to a Super Fund and the automatic loss of any pension  rights other than the basic pension at the lowest level will be the only big stick effective enough to bring accountability to the system.

With such accountability it will tend to as well remove the attraction for the Scum of Society to infiltrate the system and in so doing damage Society as a whole.

Good point Bob -- the question is How to get a Bill enacted amd passed in Parliament to force such a position to be used.
