CASE TO ANSWER: Prosecutors called in to investigate Thomson report
FWA's general manager Bernadette O'Neill, in a statement released today, said the 1100-page report included 181 contraventions of workplace laws.

The investigation looked at the union's financial management under former general secretary and now federal Labor MP Craig Thomson.

I think we should get tech support! Just to lighten up!

Do we still think CT is a man under extreme pressure and about to snap. Doing this with a smurk all over his face. He is still playing us all for fools and each time some are suckered.

This is all reminiscent of the report that resurfaced again recently about Gillard helping a boyfriend knock off a million dollars while working for a large legal firm.     Google: Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard's criminal history and her hypocrisy with wikileaks and julian assange.

For those who have not read this, it will blow their mind as to how she got into parliament, let alone become Prime Minister.     Based on this story, Thomson will probably get away with what he did because he is protected by the Party.

Dear Denise

I must say that I greatly admire Tony Abbott's action today as he was not willing to compromise his principles by accepting CT's 'tainted' vote when he decided to vote with the Opposition. A great exemplar for the Labor Party.

Kind regards

Caroline

Me too Caroline.   He said that the Coalition would not accept the tainted vote that Thomson might offer, and he stood his ground.   That blew their nasty little stunt right up in Labors' face.

Totally agree  Al what a way to learn a lesson though!

Here's hoping those voting in the future remember the debacle that is this present Labour/Greens alliance. Allowing the Greens the say (what an anomaly that rule is in the Senate) is astounding.

People have to realise and remember they cannot solve their ambivalence towards fairly ordinary government policies and fairly ordinary politicians by voting for the crazy Greens and left wing Labor.

Remember that the majority of people in this country did not vote Labor... lesson learned?

Gillard was semi - hysterical in parliament this afternoon, i think she was totally rattled, and within a wafer of totally losing it. Combet and Albanese were also 'very brittle', to put it mildly. And the 'Deputy Speaker' was in the same boat.

One thing for sure, I think that the experience of this particular federal government should heavily engrave a couple of lessons:

1) Any Conservative group that everproposes directly prefrencing the Greens should be summarily shot! Or if to any Independent aligned with Labor or the Greens, ditto!

2) Don't form a minority government with dubious bedfellows. Go for a re-election, on the spot!

Cheers  bro' al

THE DEVIL MADE ME POST THIS !

That's the best excuse I've seen so far.

That is most likely what is spurring Thomson on, look what Gillard did and she ended up PM.

Yes Vivienne, Andrew Bolt delved into that sorry episode again just the other day (was it on last Sunday's Bolt Report?), featuring alleged misuse of monies at least double the accusations against Craig T in Adelaide some years ago, while our now PM was a lawyer with Slater and Gordon and she had, or had had, a relationship with AWU heavyweight Bruce Wilson. Other names featuring in the recent re-drawing of attention to the original claims include Glen Milne, and 2UE's Mike Smith.

If someone has already posted on this again recently, apologies for that. For others who might be interested however, this current article from the brave Kangaroo Courts of Australia website and its driving force, brave Shane Dowling, may be of interest.

I am not crusading on this, just bringing it to attention. In fact, one simple thing bothers me a lot in relation to all these 'buried' cases alleging political malfeasance in high places, be they to do with The Heiner Affair, HSU or this matter, and it is this. If the cases are as clear cut as they seem, how have they escaped prosecution to date? Is it just that our country's law systems are totally sus? Some might shout "Yes!!", but I think that that is perhaps a bit naive. There has to be something missing, re the evidence and / or reliability of the accusers, which holds back what would otherwise be surely gleeful prosecution of the cases by the allegees' enemies.

Cheers  bro' al

Dear Jan'

I absolutely love the red devil avatar. Where do you get them from? Whenever you use them they are absolutely spot-on.

Kind regards

Caroline

Caroline,  I think someone sent it to me in an email, and I saved it into a folder of fun things in "My Pictures".   I do that when I get something I like.  Cheers - Jan.

FOI Airs More Than Slipper's Laundry

The SMH has unearthed Peter Slipper's parliamentary expenses under a newly discovered FOI loophole - and Nicola Roxon wants to make sure it never happens again, writes Paul Farrell

In May this year the Australian Information Commissioner quietly tweaked their Freedom of Information guidelines. There was no press release and no fanfare whatsoever. But this small amendment could entirely change the way that Parliament operates.

The new guidelines state that the Department of Parliamentary Services, the Department of the Senate and the Department of the House of Representatives were all subject to FOI and had been since 1999. For the first time ever, Federal Parliament in Australia is subject to Freedom of Information laws.

We should all be talking about this. We should all be writing about this. It’s perhaps the single greatest development in FOI law in Australia, and it was an accident.

Surely this is a case of being looked after, protected.

Who initiates a 'genuine' defamation case and ends up paying the one being sued to settle the case.

The below is from Andrew Bolt.

Join Labor! Pay for Thomson!

Andrew Bolt , Saturday, June, 09, 2012, (8:56am)

An astonishing amount - especially when you consider it’s to protect someone over alleged actions done not as a Labor member, but union leader:

THE NSW Labor Party paid almost $350,000 in legal costs for Craig T... before the troubled MP was suspended from the party in May.
More than two-thirds of the amount - $240,000 - was paid to Fairfax Media, the publisher of the Herald, under a settlement reached a year ago when Mr Thomson withdrew defamation action he instituted in 2009.
Another $108,366.87 was to cover Mr Thomson’s other legal expenses and some of Labor’s own bills related to the case, taking the total the ALP paid to $348,366.87.
