Real People - facing the forgotten issues with friendship and a little fun.

There is a lot to take in, many interviews. one that Mikko will be interested in is the story A funny thing happened on the way to...New York. This is the experience of Cr. David Hinchliffe, ex Brisbane Deputy Mayor and successful artist who returned to Toowoomba, his hometown and visited his favourite art supplier, Murray's in Ruthven Street.
My wife was at the Post Office recently and noticed a $10 special.. "The World According to Clarkson" Volume 3.."For Crying Out Loud"... by Jeremy Clarkson of the TV show "Top Gear"... and what a delightful read it is, for those who revel in British Humour... I will be on the look out for Volumes 1 and 2 in the hope that they are as amusing as this collection of short essays that appear as weekly articles in the Sunday Times.
Clarksons dedication on the fly leaf gives a fore warning of the contents. It reads simply ''This is dedicated with gratitude to the Green Movement, the Americans and the Health and Safety Executive for giving me so much to write about "
He then proceeds to produce two and three page long peices lampooning each of the above at every opportunity.Political Correctness is not included!!!!
In one article, lamenting the lessening of dogs in the UK as pets and the increase in gold fish numbers to take over that role, he mentioned cats in a manner that made me think of our JG member Ebony who often mentions kicking her imaginary cat, and I am sure she will appreciate this... ( incidently I happen to be quite fond of cats).....Clarkson says " ...what.. (sic).. would I recommend if you don't want a dog any more? Well, not a cat, obviously-- despicable animals, the four legged equivalent of a footballers wife: pretty, well groomed and clean but, fundamentally, only after your money."
Permalink Reply by Rae Billett on April 12, 2012 at 8:34am People who kick cats don't rate. I never have trusted those people.
I am reading Zero Day, David Baldacci, just finished The Litigators, John Grisham, and Breath by Tim Winton, an Australian story about a surfing mad ambo growing up in WA.
Permalink Reply by Jan Courtney on April 13, 2012 at 8:24pm I'm just about to start The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, himself is now reading the second book of the trilogy and can't put it down, so hopefully I'll like it as much. Anybody else read the book ??
Permalink Reply by Rae Billett on April 13, 2012 at 8:36pm They are all brilliant Jan, read them all, they are addictive and you must read them in order or you don't get the plot.
Best reads I have had in years actually and I read A LOT... Not for the faint hearted though, very graphic.
I have watched the European movies (graphic!!) but I believe Daniel Craig was made for the part of Michael Blomkvist in the English version, two still to come.
Steig Laarson who wrote the books died in a car accident just after he took the three manuscripts to the publishers so there will be no more. I actually think there would have been more, at least one more, but he died. What a pity he died, he wrote extremely well.

The most steadfast tradition of Australia's cultural establishment is its resolve to forget the recent past,“ writes Nicholas Rothwell in his introductionto the new edition of David Ireland’s prizewinning 1976 novel ,The Glass Canoe, to be published by Text Publishing in May 2012.

In a second-hand bookshop in Buenos Aires, Jostein Gaarder makes an exciting find: a transcript of a letter to St. Augustine, author of the famous "Confessions", from Floria Aemilia, the woman he renounced for chastity.

It's not only Ahn, but his family also who seem to have incredible character, humour and optimism. I am really enjoying it.
The Happiest Refugee tells the incredible, uplifting and inspiring life story of one of our favourite personalities. Tragedy, humour, heartache and unswerving determination - a big life with big dreams. Anh's story will move and amuse all who read it.
