Here is a message from Just Grounds owner, Rob Moore, and below that are the next steps...

Rob Moore 24th August 2011

The Convoy of no Confidence has been a remarkable success.

I was extremely proud to be part of the 2000 plus peaceful protest. It was an unprecedented military style logistical effort performed by 'Salt of the Earth" Australians and their many thousands of supporters along each of the 11 routes.

The commitment of the Convoy leaders and the heirarchy of the National Road Freighters Association was an inspiration. The strength of character to embark on this unknown venture showed the true courage of everyone's conviction despite the threat of failure and ridicule.

After our symbolic drive through the Parliamentry precinct we all gathered on the lawn for the official proceedings. There was a wide spectrum of speakers representing Large Industry, Small Business and Social Groups. While all political parties had an open invitation to speak, only various conservative coalition members responded. Our own Just Grounds members Senator Joyce and Williams gave memorable speeches as did Bronwen Bishop and Tony Abbott. Two outstanding young speakers were, Rashida Khan from the Northern Territory and  Stuart Austin representing Australians Supporting Beef Farmers.

Due to a week of intense buildup and anticipation the Convoy had captured the imagination of the greater population. This was largely due to the wonderful support of the Talkback Radio across the country, which is the defacto peoples parliament. The leaders of this were the 2GB network - Alan Jones and Ray Hadley in Sydney, and Steve Price and Andrew Bolt in Melbourne. We sincerely thank them for their tremendous support. Alan Jones arrived from Sydney after doing his breakfast show of 3 hours and proceeded to MC for the next 5 hours without a break.  I personally, will not hear a word against this man, as his commitment to results for our country is there for all to see.

The Convoy of No Confidence was labelled of no 'consequence' two hundred metres from where we were in the House of Representitives. This is an insult from a disgraceful government by a minister of no 'significance'.

It was resolved that we would not submit the 30 000 strong petition signitures on the day. Given the short timeframe and massive support all over the Australia along the way, we are going to continue gathering signatures with an aim of 1 million to be tabled by Senator Joyce in the parliament.

The community spirit that the Just Grounds members have shown was one of the bonds that made the Convoy a success. It eliminated the isolation and aided the organisers to communicate ideas into action right across Australia in a matter of weeks. Give yourselves a huge pat on the back.

We have led by example with the future template for groups to interact and mobilise with one hundred percent participation-all for no cost. This is the beginning of the electronic era for us to be able to STAND OUR GROUND.

Thanks, Rob, for adding your impressions and thoughts on "the road ahead".

What I am presenting below is my own opinion for the moment, as Cate, Rashida and the blokes from the NRFA are still on the road, making their way home.

As soon as I can get official comments from them, I will post on here.

For the moment, I'm going to try to tie together all the ideas that are being discussed in different places on Just Grounds, and then I'll ask that we PUT ALL COMMENTS relating to this topic in this discussion.

That way, things won't get lost.

Bear with me while I try to put all this together....

thanks,

Julene

OK.

Number 1.  Over the next week, we continue to make contact with politicians.

This may include phone calls and visits to their offices, but the feedback we have is that emails CAN work too.

With emails, you can choose to focus on just your own MP, or politicians from a particular party; however, we are getting feedback that it may be more effective to email ALL Members and Senators.

The easiest way to do that is to use this email address in your "To" box.

mailto:mps@convoyofnoconfidence.com

Or, if you go to this link, you can send a pre-written email.

http://www.convoyofnoconfidence.com/convoy.html

However, since it is preferable to change the subject/content from time to time, the first link is probably a bit better.

The advantage of using either of these last two options is that the IT company which is assisting us can monitor how many emails are being sent, how many are being received and whether any are being blocked.  And I can post updates.

Number 2.  Over the next 6 weeks, we collect more signatures on the petition.

I will attach the petition for printing below.

** To all those who signed and sent the petition by email over the past few days, we would ask you to also print a page of the petition and physically sign it.***

Please also get extra signatures from family, friends, businesses and so on.

Here is the address for posting:

       NRFA

       PO Box 209

       Deeragun  QLD 4818

Number 3.  Discuss other ideas, such as coordinated city-based protests.

Hi Peter W,

A misunderstanding, I think.  Ken was replying to Peter Nolan, not yourself.

We probably need to be a bit more careful about specifiying the name of the person to whom we are replying - as we do have a number of Peters, also Ians, who are active contributors at the moment.

cheers,

Julene

Im sorry yuh feel that way Ken , but your problems are  yours and  are polar opposite to mine . Mate I wont entertain you with an offensive response because its not in my nature .

Peter, I, probably like most here, have been ignoring your posts because they are off topic.  I haven't read very much of them at all, but I can probably tell you what they are about.  Let's see!  You're wife took off interstate with your kids.  You went to court to get her to bring them back, at least to the same state.  One oppinionated Judge denied your obvious rights to have contact with your children.  In the mean time, the CSA was hounding you to pay some extortionate amount of child support while you were trying to cope with the sudden influx of debts that had been accumulated in your name that you knew nothing about, including forged signatures on withdrawal slips for your accounts.  Then the Pretend division of assets that went with the divorce.  Weighted in favour of the Custodial parent, when you were given no option about who had Custody.

Do I need to go on?

That story is from personal experience, not made up!  I haven't seen my kids in Ten years!  Your method of making a difference will not work while we have corrupt politicians in power!

Stop trying to disrupt this true effort and actually join us.  Then we might all be able to make a difference!!

THANK YOU JULENE =  "Peter Nolan"  = see!!!

Your a doll for that clarity.  Ta =  Goanna

Hello Everybody,

I have now reposted the Convoy Petition as an attachment into the main discussion body up above.

A few points to highlight:

1.  The written petition signatures that went to Canberra have been counted - there was in excess of 30,000 signatures (thirty-thousand) - and this is growing!

2.  There has been criticism of the petition that it cannot force an election.

I have spoken with my constitutional lawyer contact:  While a parliament is under no legal obligation to act on the results of a petition, it is a perfectly valid form of expression for voters.  It is a valid means of informing politicians of the sentiment of the community.  And the more signatures, the more weight.

Speaking with Cate earlier, this is the Number One Priority:  Get as many (written) signatures as we can.  The goal is 1 million.

She's also asking that we keep in touch with media - in particular, thank those who have been supportive!  But also keep hammering away at the negative media.

Thanks!

Julene Haack

Hi Jan,

Yes, I read that article, too, which is why I spoke to my constitutional lawyer contact to see whether it is still worthwhile doing the petition - she essentially said yes - see above.

In regard to the Senate, yes, a new election would just be House of Reps but, assuming it was a Coalition type government, if the Greens-controlled Senate started blocking their bills (which they might well do), then I believe there is grounds for a double-dissolution - in which case, the Senate gets voted on as well.

That's my understanding,

Julene

You are spitting into the wind hoping for a new election. I suggest you read Antony Green's explanation below. Sure he is Labor, but he knows his stuff.

http://blogs.abc.net.au/antonygreen/2010/09/what-will-happen-if-the...

What Will Happen if there is an Early Election?
With the newly elected House of Representatives so evenly divided, there is a real possibility that the Gillard government will not last a full three years.

Holding only a minority of seats in the House, by-elections and resignations could see the Gillard government fall and be replaced by an Abbott government during the life of the current House.

Another possibility is that managing the House may become too difficult to manage for whoever is in government, and the Prime Minister of the day may request the Governor-General to issue writs for an early election.

I've been asked a number of times since the election what would happen to the Senate at an early election? The answer is that any early election would be a House only election, with the terms of the 72 State Senators unaffected..... read more

Hi Erica,

Completely off topic.  You're not a new member, so you know that.  Please post it in a more relevant discussion:  http://justgroundsonline.com/forum/topics/today-is-a-good-day-for-a

Thank you,

It would be wonderful if we could get Juliar sacked -  but only her own party MIGHT replace her.   Labor will make sure there are no triggers for a DD.

.......... First, a double dissolution cannot be held unless the requirements of section 57 of the constitution are met. This means that a bill must have been blocked or rejected twice by one house of the Parliament, with an interval of three months between the two occasions. This has not happened during this Parliament. There are therefore no triggers for a double dissolution. So even if the truckies convinced the Prime Minister to advise the Governor-General to hold a double dissolution, she would be required by the constitution to reject that advice.

The second misconception is that the Governor-General, as a matter of her own discretion, can call an election. She cannot. The Governor-General has never had a discretion or ''reserve power'' to call an election without ministerial advice. She can only issue the writs for an election if so advised by her Prime Minister.

If the Prime Minister does not wish to call an early election, the only thing that the Governor-General could do to force it would be to dismiss the Prime Minister and appoint a new Prime Minister who is prepared to advise the holding of an election...........

Just came in to this discussion. If at all possible then the best hope would be an election that applied to BOTH houses and hope like hell that Greens senators lose their seats.
Michael I plan to start on Janelle Saffin when she gets back from parliament . I was in the convoy and would like to know of like minded people in the NORTHERN RIVERS area that want to do something here . I have contacts in the COO-EE PROPERTY RIGHTS group and some of the anti CSG groups in this area . The convoy was only the start of geting our DEMOCRACY back from this GOVERNMENT OF NO SIGNIFICANCE . The support on this convoy was overwelming , even on the way home I had a bloke in sydney come up to me in a sevo and shake my hand and thanked us for what we did . It has been an emotional trip with the convoy from laughs to those warm fuzzy feelings , from disapointment to feeling proud to be an Aussie . Best thing Ive ever done and we cant stop now so now is the time for those that couldnt make the convoy to get together and rally our local MPs to do what is right . Thankyou for every ones support .

Hi Peter,

Just a typo - where you have written "All pools recently conducted ..." in the letter, I'm sure you meant "polls".  It's giving me some funny images of water-drenched politicians, though!  :-)
