For Like minded people who like to see-
This blog has a global following. And most gentle readers would no doubt value freedom of speech. If not for this freedom, the truth about carbon dioxide, global temperature datasets and political interference from other countries would not be known.
Freedom of speech is under attack in Australia. Mercedes-Benz – a global corporate giant – has seen fit to withdraw its sponsorship from the Alan Jones broadcast in cooperation with the Labor government to try to silence Alan Jones and rob many 2GB listeners of their right to hear Mr Jones.
"We want the car back, the deal is cancelled, it is over," Mercedes-Benz's corporate communications manager, David McCarthy, said. Yes, his name is McCarthy!
If you value freedom of speech, please take a few moments to let them know what you think of leading the charge to persecute one man, one radio station and its many listeners.
Please be polite and respectful. Let them know you value freedom of speech and that it is irresponsible for a big corporation with huge resources to team up with a government with unlimited power to try to shut down speech they don’t like.
McCarthy is living up to his namesake alright. McCarthyism is a term used to describe the targeting of political opponents for persecution.
Mercedes-Benz Australia Pacific knows what a bunch of angry twitter users think. Let them know what real people think about freedom of speech. That people have given their lives for it, and that it is an act of treason to throw it away so carelessly.
Thank you.
tell them to take their merc and shove it......
Permalink Reply by Alyn Roule on October 7, 2012 at 5:04pm Alan, you raised an interesting point of -; "consider the bigger picture" and in context with "acquaint as many city / business people as I can with the real issues faced by people on the land, and to see them in a sympathetic manner"
This is probably the single most "under used" position I have come across, no matter what the circumstance. People tend to view issues in isolation yet many times an expanded view will reveal a far different scenario. Perhaps (in general) -- educating people in the use of an Holistic view point would ceate sensible reactions instead of on occasion -- a knee jerk response.

Permalink Reply by Geoff Hutchesson on October 7, 2012 at 5:52pm Well guys,
You can do something about the Alan Jone's persecution by the media, which is also another "Get Abbot" campaign.
There is a petition of support on Change.org.
There is a Facebook page "Destroy the Joint" started by a Ms Jenna Price, running a petition against Jones.
She wants to re-educate Alan Jones. (shades of re-education camps)
-
The Canberra Times have had a petition running on Alan Jones's apology to PM Julia Gillard -
12% voters agree 'Yes I think he meant the apology'
88% voters agree 'No just trying to save his skin'

Alyn for a goods night sleep take one Stainless suacepan add Bulners strongbow Red add half a dozen Cinnamin sticks and some cloves simmer for 15~20 minutes on low and then when at the appropriate temperature consume for a deep relaxing sleep.
Works every time and most of the 16% Alch>Vol has evaporated off by then from the Strongbow base.

Permalink Reply by vivienne skeen on October 8, 2012 at 6:47am It is one thing to try to shame companies out of advertising on Alan Jones’ show, but this is very different:
Jones’ employer, the Macquarie Radio Network, has taken the unprecedented step of indefinitely suspending all advertising on his 2GB breakfast show after a week of sustained pressure following his comments about the death of Julia Gillard’s father.
The show lost more than 70 sponsors and advertisers and the suspension will likely cost the network more than $80,000 a day in lost revenue. MRN executive chairman Russell Tate said ... the station’s clients had been inundated with correspondence from protesters. ‘’One client received 6000 emails in a day,’’ he said. ‘’It’s causing a significant interruption in our clients’ businesses, so we’ve called time-out.’’
Jones’ comment was cruel, but I’ve heard far worse from some of his critics on, say, the ABC. Right now, for instance, the ABC’s Hamster Wheel is doing a series of mock obituaries for conservatives still living, such as Rupert Murdoch. Imagine the Left’s outrage if Jones broadcast an obituary on Gillard.
What’s made Jones a target is not his cruelty but his politics. That’s why there’s a campaign not just to punish him but to drive him off air. It is way, way out of proportion to his sin.
What’s more, that campaign is not simply to protest to advertisers. Drowning their inboxes with emails is actually a form of cyber sabotage by a small and unrepresentative group of activists, not consumers. The kind of people who bombarded Mercedes-Benz, for instance, are about the least likely to ever buy its cars.
This is not a grass roots protest for nicer manners. It is a vindictive campaign of sabotage to censor an enemy of the Left.

Permalink Reply by Ruth Bonnett on October 8, 2012 at 6:55am Hello Al,
Alan Jones threw his support behind the Convoy, and seems to be aware of the property rights issues involving the bush, so I think his persecution bears mention and discussion.
I am tuning in to listen to his ad free program this morning. It turns out that Merecedes Benz had cancelled its contract with 2GB two weeks prior to his remark, and tried to get political capital and publicity out of it. Mercedes Benz also misrepresented the use of the vehicle. Alan Jones is entitled to a company vehicle and this Merc is not a special deal.
Now schoolchildren are impacted by this main stream media-fuelled bogus political campaign. Alan Jones supports a schools program which now cannot advertise on his show.
Now I think there is more reason than ever to contact Mercedes Benz with a few polite and choice words to reflect the above new information.
This has been a massive overreaction, fueled by partisan media with the power to persecute, gag and destroy.
