Blocking the import of 1700 jobs to the ore project should be the start to block such big holes in the ground unless  the export of the ore is phased out within 5 years to allow time and planning for local smelters to establish.

Of course the obstacle from day one in this country has been the energy required to do so. Energy (and water) are the key to the future capacity to produce the things of a modern society and the hundreds of thousands of jobs to do so.It makes no sense to export 5 million tonnes a year of LNG to China and now Japan while neglecting our own strategic future to produce the metal

It will be time then to import skilled labor who will send the money home for those things. Yet the proponents of the $36/39 billion NBN for 24/7 TV have blatantly declared that “One implications of the NBN is that it will enable a more competitive economy, a more dynamic economy throughout the whole economy” but failed to mention any other "implication”, if indeed there is one other than to develop our resources.

It is a serious matter, not a childish plaything for Access Economics or a dysfunctional Government to ignore while serving their own fragile tenure without a vision for the Nation.

When all that remains are large holes in the ground and an eerie silence has settled over the landscape the energy will be needed to process the scrap anyway.

Have been busy today Bob looking at what Greenpeace has been doing to the timber industry in Tasmania and I am thinking of writing a Letter to the editor of the Tassie papers re this issue.

But in the interim I might need a bit of light relief so shall we look at it being a ?red letter day?

Fond regards

Caroline

Who is this Fred character writing letters today Caroline? Is he one of us?

Eureka Bob

OK. 'F' Day today. I fear the frightful feud of our fearless, feckless, faceless Federal members and the final finale that we face.

Sorry you missed "F-Day". Now it is G'Day. Generally Good Gentlemen Get Grumpy ................ Are any of you up to finishing this sentence?

Can I make you my deputy?

With any discussion especially in this country we have to look at the enabling requirements,For instance you require water supplies in most cases to generate considerable electric power.

Systems such as Coal,Nuclear and even so forms of solar require cooling systems for we are not talking about Solar panels on someones weekender so when appraising infrastructure you really have to include it all as the interconnect is either vital or works together to offset costs for all development.

As for mining because we no longer process Iron Ore we do not mine it we just Quarry it,What a joke.

This country has so much potential that is deliberately wasted or forcibly shut down because of political idealogies more in keeping with a bunch of Witchdoctor worshipping pygmies,That is why we have to totally destroy the Greens and Left factions who think of themselves as self labeled "Progressives".

Progressing back to the stone age is more appropriate terminology.

Certain things are vital points to save this country.

1: Take enviromental aspects seriously and make sure sensible logical approaches are the only ones permitted working in with everyone that are stakeholders,Foreign Companies have zero rights to self representation in that area.

2: Infrastructure must be built and all funding must be local even if we have to Nationalise some banks and development companies to do so.

Too many greedy people costing us way too much for vital infrastructure, many of which then rip off subcontractors and "Go Broke owing Millions",Such behaviour requires a Gaol sentence end of story.

3: Any Politician or Public servant exposed with either vested interests or corrupt tender practices instant Gaol along with those on the other side of the contract.

4: Unless bedridden all must work for any publically financed benefits and doing whatever they are told to do,Only exceptions are people who have genuine proven qualifications in some areas will be working in those areas as would be logical.

We have many with some level of Handicap that are more than capable of holding down a Job if we give them a chance instead of a Disability Pension, and as for those on such pensions who refuse to work then look out bludger life is going to get very hard

5: Zero Tolerance for Overseas ownership beyong the 49% bracket all control must remain in Australian hands. No tolerance at all for Foreign especially Government ownership of Industry and especially Infrastructure that are considered Strategic all of which are common knowledge such as Transport,Ports Power,Water,Education  and Especially Food Production.

6: Farmers to be valued and if needed aided by local unemployed labor if required,Backpackers taken on in limited training and assistence roles where they are paid fair wages and not stitched up with having forced Superannuation payments taken from their earnings as happens now,What a Joke and potential rort that is.

7: Recall legislation where more than 50% of local constituants decide then the local member is removed and a by election held, that will keep the bastards honest as those who know them best can be the people who judge them,No more rubbish where we get saddled with clowns such as Bob Brown because of a bunch of Drug Addled inner city twits.

8: No one on Government benefits has Voting rights until they return to Taxpayer Status when below retirement age.

9: All payments cease to Political Appointees not just Politicians when the Government responsible looses office and every Politician has all benefits cease on removal from office.

10:Any development such as the one by Ms Rhinehart must meet open and up front requirements plainly laid out and any attempt to circumvent such safeguards will result in either a Fine of a minimum 10% of company Holdings values or Nationalisation of said Company.

In other words play fair and you will do Ok,Dare to damage Australia or the prospect of it's Citizens and there will be hell to pay.

Have to wait Caroline, secret mens business.

Yeah! Yeah! You will have to make the wait worth my while Bob.

I haven't been here for a while as I was working in Brisbane. I was due to get laid off at the end of June but at 2pm on the Friday I was given a months extension. Bit inconvenient as I had already given notice at the Caravan Park I was staying at and I had brought my car down to take my gear away.

So last Thursday was my last day again but this time and my contract was not renewed so I headed home. Of the 10 contractors employed in the mapping section there are now 2 left. I have been checking SEEK for work in the last month but due to the state government sacking 2000 contractors and a decline in exploration there is very little about for GIS people unless they are also geologists.

So on Monday I will give Centrelink a call and go from $31.63 an hour mapping roads to about $6/hour on Newstart.

Well it could be worse- worse things happen in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and the good ole USA.

Lets be thankful for how good a place Australia is compared to the rest of the world

Hi Martin. I did see somewhere yesterday that there is a firm somewhere in Tasmania that is recruiting people for mine positions in Tasmania. From my reading it not only assisted in recruiting people but it also was helping potential applicants to find out how to get their skills up-to-date so that they meet the criteria.

Unfortunately I do not remember where I read it but if you try the Tasmanian papers, for example, The Courier, The Examiner, and the Advocate you may find it among one of those. The only other paper I have been reading online is the Australian so that may be worth a look also.

Best of luck

Caroline

Martin I meant to say that there is a high probability that mining jobs (possibly at two mining sites) will be opening in Tasmania if you are one of the mobile people looking for work in that area.

As for poor Gina she has to pay the court costs for her children and it looks at though the case will end up being a lengthy one so the fat cats will end up being the lawyers as usual.

I am pleased I am not a high profile poppy as nothing is allowed to be private and the higher you climb the more often you will be cut down.

But we poppies keep on growing back.
