The first day of the southern spring, and the climate is changing

Remarkable news today from opposite ends of the earth. New York marked it's hottest summer on record, a record previously held by the summer of 1966.

And close to home Perth recorded it's driest winter on record, the previous record set just 14 years ago, in 1996'

You still here?
Our friend Grant is always welcome to come to Melbourne for a holiday!

Unfortunately he may contract trench foot and influenza! ;-)

What is the old saying/ If you took all the Economists in the world and placed them end to end, they still wouldn't reach a conclusion!

here you grant..cool off a little knowing that the summer in europe is well BELOW averages, for temp, and well over! for rain.
and as the La Nina gathers itself i suggest WA could just end the year with a very wet spring:-)
Japan has its.hottest august on record.
Wrong again Jeff, record high (or low) relates to the entire temperature record, by definition, not just the weather ofna particular day.
ah , so?
a couple of stinker days can malke it a global warming event.
but some below, well below avg cold spells do not.
uh huh.

so when they released figure showing Spain was really hot, hottest place on the planet
once again.:-)
evreywhere seems to be claiming that title?
they omitted the last 2+ YEARS! that showed it cooling...but thats ok? they stopped at 2009, to pick cherries again I guess.
( eat too many and the results are not pleasant)
thats just fluke weather after all..
like negating the MWP and adding a cute FAKE rise on a hockeystick modelled graph.
thats ok and honest too.
the average for September is 27, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday are 32-34. I think you're proving my point Jeff.
I don't know how you can say it hasn't been hot? It's sort of hard to hide the fact thAt much of the earth has been really hot this northern summer. I suppose yell say the year of the flood has been dry?
Grant

the earth has been really hot this northern summer.

I would be really surprised if it wasn't hot in summer!
Meanwhile, in beautiful downtown Melbourne today, it has been wet, bleak, miserable and foggy, must be that Anthropgenic Global Warming, eh Grant? ;-)

Surely a learned gentleman like you would have read the two articles in the Weekend Australian today critical of the UNIPCC and AGW?
Apart from warmer temperatures and rising sea levels the clearest prediction based on climate science is more flooding. Much of south east Australia is alsomwet, not just Melbourne.

Anyway 'it's a miserable day in Melbourne in winter' isn't saying mich really.
