The first day of the southern spring, and the climate is changing

Remarkable news today from opposite ends of the earth. New York marked it's hottest summer on record, a record previously held by the summer of 1966.

And close to home Perth recorded it's driest winter on record, the previous record set just 14 years ago, in 1996'

Where I live we just had the wettest August since records began in 1886. I know this is true because I take the official readings for BoM and have copies of the official records since the town was established.

But that's just weather, not climate - right?
Watch out Bev, they're under the bed too!
Hate to repeat myself, but higher rainfall is predicted by climate scientists.
Hope you are correct Grant.....higher rainfall is good! Higher rainfall is one of the benefits of global warming cycles! Higher rainfall with warmer temperatures = higher agricultural yields. This is good news you bring, so thank you for posting this!!!! ;-)
Of course it is Grant B.
only just read your initial topic opener, and my immediate responsive thought was el nino and la nina with such marked opposite between NY and Perth. These are oceanic weather cycles, are they not?.....nothing to do with long range climate cycles??????? Like when we have el nino here there is la nina in Sth America or somewhere else.....(and vice versa)??????
Seen this kid too many times this week.....get this kid off my screen! (and please get him some help). Not good to see such an angry attitude (and face) at his age ;_(

looks like pommy lands changing ok, right back to what it used to be:-)
the other items Under the featured link are good,
COLDEST winter for 31 years. etc etc.
Parts of the world, including south West WA ares showing slight winter cooling. It's because ocean and atmosoheroc currents ate changing. It's called 'complexity'.
Not necessarily the rain might fall in intense events - floods; it won't be uniform or necessarily fall in dry areas, and plants will need more water because of a bigher evaporation rate.
It's complex, Geoff.
He has every right to be scared, and angry.
