Strange Noises

There have been quite a few YouTube videos about strange noises being heard around the world which I have looked at with some interest and skepticism. Over the past two nights I have awoken, at 4.00am and 1.20am to hear strange noises outside. I am in the northern suburbs of Brisbane but could not tell how far the sounds were. On each occasion there was otherwise no sounds (no traffic, planes, birds). The first night my husband also heard the noise and looked outside but could see nothing. The second night I didn't wake him. The sounds probably lasted five minutes at the most, consisting mainly of a high pitched note lasting about five seconds, but varying in length a little. There was also a sense of another sound or perhaps vibration at a much lower, almost inaudable level. There was no pattern other than the sounds stopping and starting over the five minutes or so. My best comparison for the high pitched noise would be a horn or a truck breaking. Has anyone else heard these noises or have any suggestion as to what they are?

Thanks Beverley, it would seem to be odd hours to be playing instruments, but definitely a possibility.

I guess you have spoken to neighbours to find or if they have heard it as well or did it seem to originate from inside your own home?

Possibly due to seasonal migratory patterns it may be calls from some birds not seen regularily in Australia probably from South East Asia,for the description sounds like a bird warbling.

Thanks Steve, I haven't noticed the noises over recent nights (perhaps sleeping more deeply). You could be right about birds, though the sounds to me we're more mechanical than natural.
