No quarter asked -- No quarter given.

So are you implying that the extensive child abuse that is perpetrated by other than the clergy doesn't matter ?
Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on November 10, 2012 at 1:41pm No! I had a sister who was raped by neighbours at the age of 12! I am not the one conducting the Poll!
Permalink Reply by Jan Courtney on November 10, 2012 at 1:58pm Why publicise it then ?
Why not just speak out against across the board abuse ?
Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on November 10, 2012 at 2:10pm I did! I told the very sad story of my sister's rape and her very sad life which ended in her murder under the Discussion Topic "Adolescent Self Harm......."!
Permalink Reply by Jan Courtney on November 10, 2012 at 2:27pm Well why open up a topic that is hurtful to many of us, again, after it had been done to death last August ?
Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on November 10, 2012 at 2:50pm Because it has been in the news a great deal over the last few days and I bevieve that it has coming to a head at the present time particularly with the publication of the book written by the ex-priest, Kevin Lee. I am sorry that this is painful for you and I respect your beliefs and your faith in the Catholic Church. It is not just the Catholic Church but many other Churches have been involved in this terrible ordeal and they need to be called to account for their transgressions against the very young and vulnerable.
Permalink Reply by Rae Billett on November 10, 2012 at 4:37pm I just caught up with Lateline from last night. What an awful story about what that poor child endured at the hands of what can only be described as a sadistic beast.
I agree with everything you have posted here Phillip, well done.
How much longer is this going to continue? The cover up in the Catholic Church continues and the so called sanctity of the confessional protects them still, and even if that can be over ruled who can say if the church will give all the information or if all the information has ever been documented.
The Catholic Church is a business with a lot of money behind it, they have covered and up and shifted blame and made excuses for over 20 years and that is only in this country. A pox on them all.
I am an atheist so I cannot for the life of me understand how people can accept any religion or sect knowing the beastly, ghastly things that occur and have occurred within the realms of those institutions purporting to be caring and in the name of some god.

You are right -- however, like most issues, the inocent priests must not be tarnished because of those who are ----- #*^%!$)%&**^$#&^ --
Sorry for the rant -- but this issue hits very close to home.
Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on November 10, 2012 at 5:08pm With me also Alyn as one of my nephews was sodimised with one of his classmates by a Brother who took them camping. My nephews friend tried to burn down the house where the brothers lived and was caught and sent to prison. My nephew is deeply traumatised and feels as though he is damaged goods. He is in his 40's now and has never had a girld friend that I am aware of. He told me all this one night and has never forgiven his father for not doing anything after he told his dad what had happened. He told me that he uses prostitutes when he needs to as then he does not need to form any attachments to them.
I may have a little understand of how you feel (I think) but it did not happen to me so I would not really know how anyone involved would really feel. I can only imagine. I know that my nephew's story touched my heart.
The investigation I spoke about above is to find out if there has been a cover-up by the Church and I believe that all Churches and Schools could form part of this investigation. I actually read four different articles about this issue today so I do believe that it will be in the news for some time to come.
Permalink Reply by Alyn Roule on November 10, 2012 at 5:16pm There was a spot on channel 10 news about 10 minutes ago, mainly about NSW but it is a National Issue and a complete Audit of Every Church official.
Cardinal Pell -- while active in this Issue -- needs to open the entire issue to Federal Authorities to hunt down EVERY Perpitraitor without fear nor favour.
Unless this happens, the Church will loose further credibility -- if there is any left that is.
Honest Government, Fair Rights to property and compensation, Australia and our people strong and proud, reinstatement of values and respect
