For Like minded people who like to see-
Have just read Rob's e-mail which all members would also have received and it makes my heart feel very sad that 1) he is close to being burnt out (in my opinion) and 2) what will happen to the site I have grown to love, and the enjoyment and relationships I have come to cherish on the Just Grounds Community.
I will need to rely on my more experienced colleagues to help in solving the present dilemma together.

The Moderators might have some idea where to go from here, such as Dale and Tony.
I am prepared to chip in a few dollars each month but i don't think the cost of this Ning site is the problem.
to move ahead I think the site needs a name change (again) to a name that will be more easily seen by search engines. I found the site originally by looking for agriculture and up came Agmates.
Who in the world would ever Google "just" of "just grounds"? A divorce lawyer might have interest, just grounds for divorce. But that does not catch general public attention.
The site requires promotion and that could happen via some of the international news type issues being discussed here, such as land and ocean problems and possible solutions. I think there needs to be active effort to post links to the site on other sites like Twitter. I used to do it but stopped due to the tiring waste of time antagonism (gone now).
I think if issues are discussed here and then followed up by members taking it in turn or whatever to write to say a politician or expert, reply could be posted here and discussed. And then followed up further like from boardroom meetings.
Maybe editor- Mikko has an idea or two, or Bev or Cate, Stephen or all.
My fingers are crossed.
Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on September 11, 2012 at 8:26pm My fingers and toes are crossed John CF as the issues raised and discussed and the friends I have made on this site (my first time blogging) are an important part of my life at the moment and have helped to divert my attention away from health concerns over which I have no control. As my husband's says it is good therapy for me. I wish that I had more knowledge about the site, its current issues and problems then I could perhaps make some positive contributions to help to solve these.
At this stage I think give it a little time for the other to think things over.
I wish rob well with whatever he does.
Where are you on all this Dale? And Mikko, bro' al, Stephen and others?
And Dr Caroline, I am sorry to hear of the health problems but happy to hear your husband's view.
Best regards,
John CF.
Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on September 11, 2012 at 8:48pm I think that they are probably sending Rob some personal e-mails at present as they are probably more in touch with read issues that made be evading us. Thanks for your best wishes John ... it means a great deal to me.
My kind regards to you
Caroline
bro' al, my thoughts about a search engine magnet site name are purely to help develop the site into having many members so as to attract advertisers or sponsors to pay for site management.
I think initially a webmaster - manager could come from an IT class at high school or TAFE or such.
There could be thread for radical kids and other thread for geology millionaires such as yourself bro' al.
Queensland rural millionaires too.
And I hope our Cate and family will be on their feet again, soon as. (well I see she is on deck and firing already. That's good and hi Cate)

Sounds like a good idea to me. Is it OK with everyone else?

Permalink Reply by susan walton on September 11, 2012 at 9:25pm Hi all. I opened my emails to see the above mentioned letter, and have to say I'd forgotten about this site but did spend quite a lot of time several months ago reading, I think I posted once.
The trouble is, there are a lot of sites similar to this one now, Facebook is littered with them just for a start and one gets a little tired of reading the 'hate' sites re this Labor government. I don't think it stops the dislike of Gillard and company, it's just that the sadness and hopelessness takes over and one has to walk away or go mad..literally. :)
Lately, I've been sticking mostly to Shane Dowlings Kangaroo Court site and recently Michael Smith's news site. Even just reading those two sites deepens my anger and despair at this current Labor government....I've also found one has to be careful discussing politics amongst friends, as this has caused a few bad feeling amongst good friends on both sides of the fence, it's hard to argue intensely with old and good friends lol! Politics and religion are not good table talk subjects as I've found out..much to my dismay on occasions.
No matter how hard one tries to keep such discussions at a civilized level..they inevitably degenerate into something way more sinister and brings out the worst in most of us. I fear politics is dividing the nation on a level I've never seen in all my years of walking this earth...never before have I seen politics so down and dirty..and I fear this will only worsen as Federal elections draw nearer.
I'm not sure if if this is a fact, or is just my observations, as the internet has bought people out of the woodwork to such an enormous degree.
I love my country, and some days my despair at what is happening and my loathing of the people running it at this point is huge...from the Slipper, Thomson affairs to the cost of the refugees and the useless carbon tax, yes, I do believe humans are pollution monsters, but the carbon tax is not the answer, and nothing good can come from something built on such a government lie. But that's another story.
Something not very good is happening to Australia right now..and I cannot like what I see. And no, I'm not a manic depressant...just a very concerned citizen.
150 coalminers were laid off this morning, at my husband's colliery, but all is well apparently..Australia is doing great they tell us. Hmmm! Really?
Off to scour this site and do some relaxing (hopefully) reading. :)

Permalink Reply by Barbara lee on September 11, 2012 at 10:26pm I had offered a long while ago to pitch in with a membership money, was told No. This was an independent site and didn't need my help in some many words, I was taken back by that remark, as when you join a club of what ever, their is always a cost involved and you can't expect one person to carry that by himself, you just can't or maybe other reasons. A modest cost would be good for all to pitch in, as this site means a lot to many, even if there just looking in, that's ok as they are interested but maybe shy.
I feel if you want to belong to something special you need to put in.
This is the first I've herd of this, and so disappointed that I had to find out this way by accident that Dr Wright had to let us know in a discussion. Have to say very disappointed in this.

Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on September 11, 2012 at 11:00pm I received it by e-mail and was told that over 3000 had been sent out Barbara. It came in my personal email and not through just grounds mail. It may be taking some time to get them all out??!! Sorry you have not received your as yet.
My kindest regards to you and Phill

Permalink Reply by Stephen Cox on September 11, 2012 at 11:41pm Vivienne click on the link Dale supplied and message him as I have done that way it is easier to coordinate rather than having to check willy nilly through this thread.
I can see having read Rob's post regarding Grass Fed Livestock producers where he needs to focus and considering how across the whole world people from all industries and livelihoods are having to focus on survival and put 100% effort into that.
The only choice he can make in reality to do such a well thought out vision justice is to give it his undiluted energy,I do however hope he can look in here occasionally for some relaxation on the discussion regarding Poetry Jokes and Music and Videos.
Cate you too please do not be a stranger I can well understand the need for focus on the new site but hopefully we may be able to crosslink some of the relaxation and community based sections of the two sites,And of course what we focus on is relevant to all Australians be they on the Land or in the Cities,It is after all to the eternal credit of those good folk on the land that much focus has occured where it is needed.
Just grounds has morphed into a lively discussion on many topics and with what would well and truly pass muster as considered and real world expert appraisals and summnations on a wide range of issues covering not just the Sociopolitical spectrum but in truth an earnest search for a best way forward for all people on a multitude of topics.
The opinions may vary the focus is wide and the research and interpretation of others opens our eyes and minds collectively so we are all enriched.
To those of the Community who have selflessly worked behind the scenes as Moderators and community assistents and Especially to Rob for his devotion and foresight in growing this community to where it is today.
Thank you one and all. Stephen Cox
Morning all!
Thanks for that Stephen. Barb@ tea time last night- I hit send and in a split second it blinked and I wasn't sure that 3200 could have gone so quickly! What do we need a $50Billion NBN for -I ask???
I have no reason not to stay a member but I feel it needs some energy. The cost is bugger all and should not be an issue for the future.I just feel that Michael Smith- a friend is at the frontline and we all must support him rather than state the obvious daily here.
For me Susan Walton's comment says it all (she read my mind!) I am going to copy and paste it onto Smithy's blog as it says so much!
