The Media and beat up reporting.

I thought I might resurrect this discussion once again. If anyone wants to comment on some outright fallacious ideas by people who should know better, published in the press or given air time on TV, have your say here.

Lucky you Al, does not happen here.

You might get to see them here if you take the time to go to their office, provided they are there. But I suppose an appointment would need to be made. I couldn't trust myself to front Greirson, Combet or Fitzgibbon even if I did see them, I would be in trouble for the use of bad language and because they would still push their party line no matter what and tell you c.r.a.p about how much they have done here, when blind Freddy can see that have done f... all,  and how they have created 'clean energy jobs' for the town.....(#^%$#@*&..!!!)   I could go on and on.

The aluminium smelter closed, the mining industry is under pressure, Nathan Tinkler wants to build another coal loader but is having trouble getting it approved. The rail and road systems between Newcastle and Sydney are appalling, I could go on and on.

Large passenger ships want to visit Newcastle more often (harbour is as deep as Sydney and no bridge!!) but the town is a masoleum; sure there is a lot to do up the valley in the vinyards and there are the beautiful beaches, but the city is appalling and quite honestly an embarrassment.  It is sooo sad because it wasn't always like this.

There has been a Labor led council here for eons who have continually blocked any development of note until now it is too late...When they took the main hospital away from the city and put it out in the west, the town died.  So I don't blame the council completely I blame successive Labor governments state and federal. They use Newcastle as a cash cow and give nothing worthwhile back, never have...

Rae, you said above that "Federal Members are never in their electorates communicating to people what is going on in really, truthful, believable terms.....no. the media is left to do the spin." While no doubt that may be a generally fair statement, I am pleased to live in electorates, federal and state, where I get to see and talk to our reps, Josh Frydenberg and Andrew Macintosh, quite often.

Cheers  bro' al

The Prime Minister has written to seven chief executives of media companies to cut short a lengthy brawl about reforms to police the media, inviting commitments for tougher self-regulation to avoid the need for a new statutory authority.

That's interesting Jan. But she wouldn't have had to do that if the government were in any way capable and implementing policies that the people need and want. The media and journalists are here to report what the government and their departments and ministers are doing. That's is exactly what they have been doing.

Julia and the Labor Party will need the media more than ever in the next election (not that they will gain anything) so one should not be surprised that she might now be handing out an olive branch to media chiefs.

The Labor Party should never have picked this fight with the media, at the behest of the Greens, they were never going to win. What a pity for government that we are all so well educated now.......we can see ineptitude and deals with the Greens and the Independents for what they are. Power at any cost..

Lets see how much of the Media reports Tony Abbotts speech in China where he made it plain that Foreign ownership of Australian farms will stop under his Government and especially as the Liberals do not support Nationalised Industries,The system that China uses is basically shelf companies to hide the fact their so called companies are government controlled and owned and are buying up or Country under Labor and the Greens as well as short term vision impaired State Liberal Governments that have inherited a massive Labor Debt burden.

This is a very important speech made by TA and that vision must be adherred to and hence needs widespread media coverage,Lets see if it gets it and do our bit if possible to make sure it gets it in our Local areas,For if we the people run with an Idea that benefits the people and by sheer weight of numbers and exposure can force the hands of the Politicians to stay the course we win.

Just turned off 7.30 Report, Julia Gillard.....I cannot even listen to her now.

Blaming the states for the increase in power prices "it's the poles and wires....not carbon that is causing the rise in power prices"....When will she get it?

People in this country are not willing to accept an increase in the cost of living as a backlash from the carbon tax for no discernible return, in other words people want to see something real for their money, not something that may or may not eventuate as in climate change in another 100 to 1000 years.

They will never accept the lie she told.

The has chutzpa, I will give her that, she will go down saying....' I saved Australia'. Thanks Julia.

We have to remember people Julia does get it,She is supposedly a fabian and I don't doubt that and their agenda was always to slowly act to formate change then act vigerously and quickly but not too early to bring about the Socialist ideals of fabianism.

Julia does get that but I think maybe she is not quite as smart as she thinks herself to be for undoubtably as is often a trait of the Left she has jumped too soon in trying to implement the Fabian Socialist dream,Gough will be disapointed if regarding his increasing years he is cognicent enough to realise Julia has blown it just as he did in his day.

Whilst the CO2 tax contributing along with greed and prior Labor governments not maintaining infrastructure has resulted in large increases in Electricity costs, just hope you are not still facing such an impost in 2050 when despite changeing to an Emissions Trading Scam dear Julia and Uncle Bob have set the base price to be $350.00 at that point in time.

Yes Stephen she does get the whole picture, she is very intelligent and extreme left. However, I am very disappointed the with Coalition and Howard for going along with all of this ETS nonsense when they were in power. The gave the base start even though they didn't sign Kyoto. The only reason the Greens blocked it back then was because they wanted a much higher price to be paid. The Labor Party and Julia obliged to keep power.

But you might be right, good point, Julia has overreached, it was the wrong time in world economics, not to mention here, even though we are told the economy is the envy of the world (that's because our banks were regulated to some degree). Cost of living is not great for everyone and quite honestly people are getting sick of hearing that spiel particularly when they are in sight of losing their jobs or already have.

All this because some greedy mongrels in the UN want the West to pay for the starving hordes in Africa and allow despots to continue their despicable actions. For what?  So they can continue to kill each other, starve, rape and kill their women and children. It's tribal, always has been but the media puts it in our faces as something that can be changed, it can't.

I am not interested in the UN and what minority groups want. They posture and swan around the world in big cars and stay in 5 star accommodations poking their greedy noses in things that should not be the concern of the UN. The UN was never formed to act in the manner they now do. But the leaders at the top of the UN have made it so and have had US support. Countries like us need to keep right away from their edicts and agreements. Those people don't care about Australians, Americans don't really care about Australians either, they care about where we are situated as compared to China that's all.

You know it's interesting hearing those Labor MPs who resign still protecting those left and the leaders, even knowing some of them and the leader, have treated them in an abominable fashion.

Harry Jenkins is one, I suppose he believes it is more gentlemanly to do that than say it like it is but quite honestly how unbelievably badly was that man treated. Kicked out to put a person like Slipper into the speakers position. Just awful.

And yet they still seem to wonder why Labor has lost all respect with voters. One terrible, wasteful decision on top of another, not to mention the things they do to their own are quite horrendous.

Joel Fitzgibbon wanted to stay in the Defence portfolio and was shafted. He seems to have turned on Julia though. No love there. Then Gillard shafted Smith as the Foreign Minister to give bloody Carr a spot.

Remember Carr was the destroyer of NSW, the rot set in with Carr but the Labor Party seems to think all of us don't know that or it has slipped our memories. Of note Carr and Williamson were thick as.....well you know.

Personally I have more respect for people like Michael Kosta, once screwed on Labor and John DellaBosca both of whom are willing to tell it like it is about the demise of Labor. They have nothing to lose now though.

Denise Scanlan said:

Now he would say he wasn't pushed but I bet he isn't happy so he is taking the first bus out of government, knowing he probably won't be holding his seat after the next election.

Yes, Harry Jenkins has annouced he will be retiring at the next election.

One thing I will say about what has happened with this government and the Greens and the carbon dioxide tax, it has shaken everyone out of their complacency. It has made them look at  decisions made on our behalf by those who believe in something other than the majority of Australians.

They have made the people of this country realise they had better keep an eye on their governments and leaders in the future.

They are voted into office for all the people; not minorities, not the UN, not America but by Australians, for Australians. They are elected to make the decisions Australians want, to see the country enhanced, not to implement agreements others with vested interests outside of this country make and coherce our politicians to follow along with, without the approval nor the knowledge of the Australian people.

I hope the next Government has a backbone, they are going to need it because people are not going to be fooled by false promisesa and dodgy agreements now.

No one could write a script for the way this country is being run under this current government.

Unbelievable that we have such a bunch of crooks in charge of this once beautiful country.  How the hell did this happen?

I know - because we have had it too good for too long and have rested on our laurels.  Well all had better wake up before we are decimated.

It would appear it is nearly too late though with so much industry in trouble and farmers too.

Bloody hell!!  Just realised it is the 43rd parliament of Australia.  I will never forget this parliament number as being the WORST PARLIAMENT IN OUR HISTORY to date as that is my year of birth.  Who will ever forget this parliament though anyway?  It is just the number that may come up in history.

Oh Denise,  isn't that an absolute hoot.  BTW  How old IS Henry Kissinger now ?

I wonder where the useless Carr is,  Rudd is making an ass of Carr as well as himself.

The Americans who actually know that he is no longer PM or Foreign Minister must be either scratching their heads in "wonder"  or rolling on the floor with laughter.

Cant make up my mind whether to laugh or cry!
Denise Scanlan said:

The Rudd we all know...a major namedropper. Ego has never landed.

KEVIN Rudd, the backbencher from Queensland? No such thing. In his own mind, he's still foreign minister. Prime minister, too.

Rudd turned up in the US last week and addressed the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. It's a talk that should have been given by his replacement, Bob Carr.

If Australia knows Rudd is no longer the prime minister, or foreign minister, the rest of the world does not. Because Rudd is still acting as though he is.

Check this opening line from his speech: "When I mentioned to Henry Kissinger in New York on Monday that I was coming here today, he observed ... "

Doesn't matter what Kissinger observed. It's Rudd's tone that matters. Me And Henry. It was a huge namedrop.

And Rudd was dropping his own name as much as he was dropping Kissinger's. He continued: "It is also a great honour to be welcomed so warmly here during my first visit to this great city of Chicago - including having been received by Mayor Rahm Emanuel ... "

I understand that only 25% of Americans can find AMERICA on a map of the world.

I think the Chaser or some other comedians did a program where they had a map of the world with the labels replaced. So Australia became North Korea and Tasmania became South Korea. One US couple was surprised how big North Korea (Australia) was.

If this is true then not only can Kevin masquerade as Australian PM in the USA he could, if he had a bit of make-up and spoke Chinese, be the Chinese Premier too.

At least while in the US Rudd- unlike Malcolm Fraser- appears to have kept his pants on

Hmmmm Denise, is that so about Sheikh If there is one person I cannot abide listening to, apart from Julia, it's Simon.

Perhaps Get-Up is not going so well these days even though they say they have thousands of members..that is simply not true. If you go to their site and comment you automatically become a member even if you don't agree with their politics.  That's the way it works.

I think Get-Up might be on the out, but then perhaps Sheikh sees himself as a new Labor mover and shaker, after the next election they will be taking any comers and he would be welcomed with open arms. Young opinionated and ready for politics and part of the Labor movement.

Get-Up, I again remind everyone is support by the Unions, it is a Labor affiliated organisation.
