New Horror Story - Alan Jones Programme 2GB 11 Feb 2010

Another horror story on Alan Jones' programme this a.m.  The following are the basic facts as I was able to scribble them down.

Story of a farmer Warren Berry who bought back the family farm in 1999 (where he, his father and his grandfather had all lived).  It's 4,000 acres but was in a bad state.  He cleaned it up, put up fences and put in roads.  In 2006 he was told to stop work, took it to the L & E Court in 2007 then he and the Central Western Catchment Management Authority worked together on a PPVP.  Then Dept. of Environment and Climate Change gave the CMA the run-around so he couldn't get the PPVP.

A year later he got a vegetation plan which was totally unacceptable so he had meetings with the CMA and his solicitor and was told nobody could change the plan.  Then they said to him "Sign this property vegetation plan or the Dept. of E & CC will lock up the property."  Then the next day the Dept. officer was at his place threatening to charge him and take out an injunction to stop him doing any work on the property.  He was half-way through constructing a roadway.  They said the road was too wide because it could only be 6 metres wide and anything over that was illegal but he pointed out that most of the machinery was 8,9,10 and even 12 metres wide so how do you get a piece of machinery like that up a track and his response was it was not his (the officer's) problem.
So it has been two and a half years of waiting for the Dept. to charge him with alleged clearing.  Now he has been hit with a remedial direction to lock up 250 hectares which means he can't touch it including holding yards, paddocks, etc.  He has to remove all livestock and lock up the country for 15 years but he has to maintain it in the meantime and he has to report to the Dept. every four months.  He can't do anything on the land that HE owns.  He's spent money, lost production and had sleepless nights plus he has a wife and children who are also suffering.

Warren says that the really annoying factor is that he has been improving the environment on the farm - clearing up the rubbish and fixing the erosion and they don't care.  They say if you don't have a PPVP to do the work you are in breach of the Act.  You can't get one because they won't give it to you so you can't improve the farm.  He said that it was the first time in his life that he felt so totally stuffed.  He can't afford to fight the case and his biggest worry is that the banks will find out.

Alan asked about the name of the Dept. officer concerned but he wouldn't say.  However, Alan has a name which is the signature on the documents in his possession.

The current situation Warren said is that he has a meeting with this person again on Friday to try and mediate some of these orders but he had already attempted one meeting last week.  All he wants to do is get an environmental outcome on the situation but the Dept. only wants a paper outcome.  He ended by saying that the really annoying thing is that all he wanted to do was to tidy it all up so that his children would have something passed on to them because his father and grandfather all lived on the farm and looked after it.

I know this is just another story as there are many others like this coming in every day but it is still unbelievable and something absolutely MUST be done to stop it.  This is not the Australia that we all love so much - this is a foreign and unfriendly place reminiscent of some authoritarian country like North Korea and we simply cannot allow this to continue.

Alan was outraged at this story - which of course we've all heard before.  At the end of the interview Alan told Warren that he would be doing something about this and undoubtedly we shall hear more about this in the coming days.

I wounder if it would be possible to source either a transcsript or the audio of this interview from Alan Jones.

I too heard this interview and was absolutely flabbergasted and outraged!

Australia is resembling COMMUNIST CHINA more and more every day thanks to Chairman Rudd!

This BS has to be stopped!
Is this Australia? or is it Zimbabwe?
Thanks for this, June. We must be aware of the modus operandi by the green groups. That is what these Departments have become, with a few exceptions.
Yes, Greg, I'm almost sure that we'll be able to do that. But if you look at the website
www.2gb.com.au and click on Alan Jones, you'll see that the interviews are put up a day later. So most probably we'll be able to get a transcript or video tomorrow, Friday. I'll leave it to others more adept at computer stuff to do this.
Incidentally, Ruth is quite right. The Department officer who signed the "9 tightly-typed pages of rubbish" as described by Alan was Michael Burns. I forgot to put that in my post. I wouldn't mind betting he gets a real roasting, as only Alan knows how.
What we should do is to present the chatterati like Mike Carlton and others, the facts of a case such as this and ask them, is this how they want Australia to function? They are so quick to denigrate people like Lord Monckton and other so-called deniers but quite apart from arguing who is right and who is wrong on the question of the science, I would like to know from them about the moral aspect of all this. Are they really comfortable that unelected bureaucrats are taking away a person's home and livelihood for no good reason, and without compensation? Is this the Australia that they would like their children to grow up in? Methinks it is not the climate sceptics who are the deniers in this matter but those who know that gross miscarriages of justice are going on in the background in the name of climate change but who refuse to acknowledge it.
No, you're right, it didn't. But that may only be because Alan is looking into it and will be saying a lot more about it in future days. I would be very surprised if we didn't get another chapter in that story next week.
Julia,
I completely understand your frustrations as I feel it myself. A few years ago I was so disgusted with the entire system that I was prepared to go to jail for not voting if called upon to do so. As it was, Pauline Hanson came along so I joined up with her and it was a real eye opener, I can tell you. Not only did we have to battle ALL the other parties and independents but we were treated like scum by most of the public. It reminded me at the time of the French Revolution and the screaming of abuse and throwing of missiles that you see on the movies. People I had never met were treating me like some kind of pariah and we needed police protection with walkie-talkies and german shepherd dogs just to get us unscathed into the meeting hall. Although careful never to give out my address, I nonetheless got threatening mail delivered under my door and it was commonplace for the phone (an unlisted number) to ring in the middle of the night by some drug-crazed idiot who wanted to debate the legalisation of marijuana. Australia?? I nearly gave the whole thing away, I can tell you. And then commonsense prevailed and I realised that the majority of the people are good-natured and generous-hearted and that it's the small minority that make the most trouble and noise.
So it is said that we get the government that we deserve and I believe that to be true. Apathy and ignorance are qualities that are very much alive and well in this country. I would be willing to bet that there are still a great many people out there in society who can't name the PM or describe one single policy, and yet they will vote ALP until Doomsday because their fathers did and their fathers before them. When I was door-knocking at great risk to life and limb on some occasions, a great many women said, Oh no, I'm not interested. My husband tells me who to vote for!!!!
I personally think that our system is very much at fault. The compulsory preference system of voting - as I've said somewhere before - means that you essentially have to vote for people you absolutely don't want so that the incoming government is always formed by either the Coalition or the ALP. You may get a few Greens and independents etc. but in the end it is always one of the major parties who gets into power usually on the basis of the preferences thrown around by others who didn't make it. Compulsory polling too is a very contentious subject - as even the dull, uninterested and ignorant are able to fill in a few squares even though they haven't got a clue. And what is wrong with a "first past the post" system? It has worked in the Uk for years.
So until we all put into place a decent, fair and honest system of voting we have to expect that we shall have many years yet of this cock fighting, as you put it. There are still many Pauline Hansons out there ready to do their best for the country but in view of the disgusting way she was treated, why would you bother? You might remember that, after all that she had been through, she was jailed for three years for SOMETHING SHE DIDN'T DO! And then, when acquitted of the charges and let out, not a single penny of compensation. THAT, my dear Julia, is why we are governed by a bunch of fools.
Let's face it. EDO advocated every single one of these disastrous policies and helped author some of them. I blame both parties but mostly environmental groups like EDO, Greenpeace, and also the endless parade of bureaucrats and pseudo scientists milking the UN gravy train.
wouldnt it be nice:-)
I am waiting for them to try and bring electronic voting in here,
no paper no traces and sooo easy to screw the figures to what the biggest bucks want.
I wonder if we all voted for climate sceptics??
could we swing them a landslide?
Leon lost his land due to this same sort of issue.
dunno if theres enough people in enough places to swing it?
Nationals as a surprise...wouldnt it be nice to NOT have the same old lib/ lab crew
Hi Julia,
I am not a member of this mob or connected with them at all, but they sound interesting.

Well, one can only vote in their own district. Fortunately for me, my district has been redrawn and I will have the opportunity to vote for one of Australia'a greatest politicians. A man of vision and courage, and contrary to media reports, an extremely nice bloke.

I think everyone should consider the individual and not just vote for someone because of their party affiliation. It is necessary in this election to vote for only candidates that can see the farce of global warming scare mongering for what it is. Vote for only people that intend to reduce taxes and spending, and repeal unnecessary and unconstitutional laws.
Julia, it would be great to all have a voice and a real vote. That is exactly what the Swiss have - it's called Citizens' Initiated Referenda which also includes a Recall provision so that any politician who doesn't measure up, can be thrown out. I've spoken about this on another thread somewhere so I don't necessarily want to repeat myself but will gladly do so if anybody wants to hear it.
But since we don't have any of that luxury, my vote this time around will go to the Nationals because they alone have shown themselves right from the start to be in tune with the land. That hasn't always been the case but now that we have Barnaby, why would you want to look anywhere else? I love his passion, I love the way he gets red-faced and thumps the table and I love the fact that now and then he gets his words mixed up. That shows me he is made of flesh and blood and isn't a robot like so many of the ALP people are. (Have you noticed, when interviewed particularly on the 7.30 report, they all end up by saying, "Good to be with you"! It's as if they've been sent a memo saying, "This is the way we do this....." thus having no minds of their own.
And no, I am vehemently against GM Crops - always have been and always will be.
Julia - I can't remember where I talked about CIR before! This site is now too big. However, as a lot of people are interested in this subject and it's difficult to find any info on it, I might make it the subject of a new discussion so that everybody can read and hopefully comment. Just give me a couple of days and I'll do that. Because you never know - it might just be something that Peter could incorporate into his talks. It would, after all, give us absolute authority over our government representatives.
