For Like minded people who like to see-
This discussion was motivated by a program that was prepared for television but never went to air about a planned terrorist attack on the Melbourne Cricket Ground during an AFL Final Game. Fortunately the AFP intervened to prevent the attack. The program stated that one of the two terrorists had received over $1,000,000 in Social Service Benefits during the years he was in Australia planning this attack.
I was updating my profile page and thought the 'LEAVE' Box meant leave page and not leave Just Grounds altogether. Lost everything to date on this discussion and apologise to all those who have contributed to the discussion. So I have rejoined and we will continue this discussion here. I have (earlier today when responses to this discussion were approximately at 350+) posed the question if we should look at fast-tracking the release of ? under-aged boat smugglers as proposed by the visiting Indonesian Leader?

Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on July 16, 2012 at 8:48pm With the dramatic increase in people smuggling events and the subsequent loss of lives, it is obvious to everyone that the rules for legal immigration have changed into a people smuggling mentality.
For these reasons Rules on Human Rights, Individual Rights, National Rights, and Immigration Policy needs to change to take into account these changed circumstances. The Rights of the people on The List waiting to come to Australia legally also have to be acknowledged and entered into the equation.

Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on July 17, 2012 at 8:17pm Jan I would like you to know that I wrote an e-mail to Tony Abbott about the situation you raised on 9th July in this Topic Discussion where you began with "Speaking about the legality...." and I gave him a summary of the points you raised and referred him to this section on Just Grounds for further details. I also suggested that he should raise this issue with the Australian people when he talks about turning the boats around and the reasons for such action.
My point in raising this today is that I noticed both yesterday and again today the Opposition Spokesperson on Immigration has been echoing these same sentiments that you first raised. It may be a coincidence but I do not think so. So congratulations are in order......You have made a difference.

Permalink Reply by Stephen Cox on July 17, 2012 at 8:39pm Caroline a friend of mine is an Editor with the ABC and has come up from being a cameraman in times now distant his take on the ABC Culture is you have to be Leftwing, preferably Gay and a number of other non mainstream traits to be employed there these days, therefore nothing should surprise with that general group who laugh at the Average Australian as they go about their particular agendas.
There is no such thing as a balanced outlook within that Organisation these days,And truthfully probably hasn't been for Decades with some rare and worthy exceptions that for the life of me, I have not yet discovered how they have survived in that Hostile Alien enviroment.
Permalink Reply by Jan Courtney on July 17, 2012 at 9:21pm Al, you have won my heart. I have had to battle to book our airline travel with Qantas rather than Emirates, and have "deprived" the dear one the chance to have a stop-over in Dubai, because of my (oh you're a bit over the top) prejudices against the slave labour that built that particular monument to greed, a monument that will never get a cent of our money
It is so good to hear someone else voice those same ideas. I also get into trouble because I won't buy the cheap milk or supermarket fruit and veg, as I want to see our own primary producers get a fair deal, and keep on producing so we will always have aussie grown food, and aussies in work.
Caroline, I have to say that the congratulations don't belong to me, If you check back you will see that I had been sent the article you refer to, I did not write it myself, so can't take the credit.
Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on July 18, 2012 at 2:27pm The Sydney Morning Herald reported today that another boat carrying 81 people issued a distress call 43 nautical miles south of Indonesia and the people were transferred to a naval ship and taken to Christmas Island. There was also another boat carrying 7 people intercepted by the Australian Navy north of Christmas Island.
The Sri Lankan Navy, on the other hand, seized two fishing trawlers carrying 82 would-be asylum seekers heading for Australia.
It is obvious to me that Indonesia knows about these boats leaving their shores and chooses to do nothing about it. This observation is given further emphasis by the fact that the same newspaper reported that the Indonesian Government will not accept any boats being returned to its shores. My question is so why should Australia? Why are we giving financial aide to Indonesia? Why should we give more money to UN to help increase the rate of processing claims in Indonesia as the Greens have purported we do?

Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on July 18, 2012 at 4:34pm On 9News just come to hand:
5 members of the Indonesian military have been arrested for alleged involvement in a people smuggling operation. They were arrested in the company (read escorting) of 41 asylum seekers believed to be from Iran and Syria. Instead of turning the boats back they are assisting their progress to Australia
The latest arrests come as another 5 Indonesian soldiers await trial for their alleged involvement in the organisation of people smuggling operations to Australia last year.

Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on July 18, 2012 at 8:18pm I have been wondering, after seeing a program of how smugglers get their illegal goods into Australia, how much contraband is making it through to Australian Criminal Gangs while the Australian Navy and Air Force are busy tracking and finding boat smugglers with no help from Indonesia which receives so much foreign aide from us.
Just a thought and a genuine concern.

Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on July 19, 2012 at 4:40pm On News24 this afternoon it was reported that 77 persons were arrested in Indonesia while attempting to board a boat to come to Australia. The presenter, like many of us, wondered why suddenly Indonesia Officials were intercepting boats prior to their leaving Indonesia. ???? It makes me wonder what the PM promised the Indonesian Leader during her talks with him while he was visiting Australia.
With the 7 that have arrived in Australia since Sunday plus the 2 that were stopped from leaving makes nine boats of illegal refugees.
