MIGRANTS, ASYLUM-SEEKERS, AND SOCIAL SERVICE BENEFITS (cont.)

This discussion was motivated by a program that was prepared for television but never went to air about a planned terrorist attack on the Melbourne Cricket Ground during an AFL Final Game. Fortunately the AFP intervened to prevent the attack. The program stated that one of the two terrorists had received over $1,000,000 in Social Service Benefits during the years he was in Australia planning this attack.

I was updating my profile page and thought the 'LEAVE' Box meant leave page and not leave Just Grounds altogether. Lost everything to date on this discussion and apologise to all those who have contributed to the discussion. So I have rejoined and we will continue this discussion here. I have (earlier today when responses to this discussion were approximately at 350+) posed the question if we should look at fast-tracking the release of ? under-aged boat smugglers as proposed by the visiting Indonesian Leader?

Hi Jeff you maybe right!

The Greens’ new boats policy: transfers from Jakarta to Sydney

Andrew Bolt July 13 2012 (9:54am)

The green movement

Greens leader Christine Milne explains how to stop boat people from...

The best way to stop people risking their lives is to give them hope of a safer pathway to a better life. That means massively increasing the number of refugees we resettle and the funding we give the UN High Commission for Refugees in Indonesia and Malaysia, working to combat corruption in Indonesian ports, and prioritising safety of life at sea.

Could someone please explain to Milne what would happen if Australia undertook to safely bring to Australia any asylum seeker who reached Indonesia?  Round off your estimate to the nearest ten thousand.

it is not morally pure to be blind to the consequences of what you propose. It is profoundly immoral.

Jeff Hutcho said:

Maybe the reason that PM Julia recently gave 4x Hercules aircraft to Indonesia, was so that they can cut out the dangerous boat bit and fly these economic refugees directly to Australia.

And the Indonesians could fill up the aircraft fuel tanks here in Australia.

It would be cheaper than getting navy vessels to pick them up and take them to Christmas Island at $1 million dollars a time.

No I'm not suggesting a manifesto for refugee intake.

Just an idea that flashed across my mind, after I heard Hadley on the boat people.

You have summed up the situation most appropriately in your last sentence Vivienne. I must admit that Ms Milne gets my back up when she says that we should give more money to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Indonesia. Why can not the UN use some of the funds it has amassed from all the countries as it is not just our problem?

Kind regards

Caroline

Hi Caroline, all of what I posted is from Andrew Bolt, but I totally agree with him. I also agree with you re the money that the UN have been given. An obscene amount, from everywhere and they are never audited, in my view the UN are a totally corrupt Marxist organisation, the UN are involved to the hilt in moving people around the UN want all nations to become so mixed that sovereignty wont come into their thinking. Not sure whether I've posted this previously or not:

News  Flash from the offshore Broome,  Western Australia ----

The Australian Navy intercepted three boatloads of  people off the north west coast of Australia today.
This placed the Navy in  an awkward position, as the boats were not heading to, but away from Australia  towards Christmas Island.

Another surprise finding was that they were  loaded with Australians who were all seniors of pension age.
Their claim  was that they were trying to get to Christmas Island so as to be able to  return to Australia as illegal immigrants and therefore be entitled to far  more benefits than they were receiving as legitimate Australian  pensioners.

The Navy, it is believed, gave them food, water and fuel and  assisted them on their journey.

We are booking the next boat, let me know  if you want to come.

Yes Jan you did post it previously but it got lost when I press the LEAVE space when updating my profile page and, of course, everything, was deleted. As they say I should not go anywhere without my mother!!!! It is good to see it posted back in this section.

Kind regards

Caroline

Bob Stewart and I have both sent a question for Sarah Hansen-Young re illegal immigrants for tonight's Q and A Program. I would be surprised if our questions make it but one can but try.

Kind regards

Caroline

Is it the same question,  or two different ones ?

I'd just about lay odds it won't get an airing if it puts Miss H.Y on the spot.  Unless of course Tony Jones doesn't like her, then it might.

Good luck anyway.  I'm not on twitter, or I'd tweet,  though that probably wouldn't be aired either.

It is two different questions but about illegal immigrants. Thanks for the good luck wishes.

Kind regards

Caroline

The Win News just reported that 3 more boats with illegal immigrants have been intercepted by Australian Ships and escorted to Christmas Island.

What was more interesting is that 131 persons on boats were arrested by Sri Lankan authorities and escorted back to that country. At last some lawful action has been taken by one oversea's country. Indonesia needs to also do what is right and legal to people who board boats to leave Indonesia without filling in the legal papers, that is, leaving illegally.

Interesting Caroline -  the following was in the paper earlier today.  I bet a certain redhead will be a "bit cross" with that envoy !

Turning boats back works: Sri Lankan envoy

SRI Lanka's high commissioner to Australia says turning boats back to his country will deter asylum seekers from making the journey to Australia.

Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe says asylum seekers will be forced to find other ways of getting to Australia if their boats are prevented from leaving Sri Lankan waters.

"Turning the boats around will deter people," he told ABC Radio on Monday.

"They know that they can't leave Sri Lankan soil."

Admiral Samarasinghe's comments came after a boat carrying 109 suspected asylum seekers en route to Australia was intercepted by the Sri Lankan navy off the island's eastern coast on Saturday.

Thanks for that link Jan. I can just imagine the PM saying to you 'Not happy Jan'.

Kind regards

Caroline

I googled 'JakartaGlobe' which reported that the Sri Lanka authorities arrested 22 on Saturday and a further 131 on Sunday who had set sail to Australia. So the boats can be turned around.

Kind regards

Caroline
