Up against cumbersome major parties, Bob Katter’s Australian Party has fielded a better-than-expected group of candidates, writes Jane Goodall at Inside Story. But Bob has done the damage.
Real People - facing the forgotten issues with friendship and a little fun.
Recent events with the announcement and launch of MP Bob Katter's new political party has generated mixed views and feelings in the north.
Just recently an Indigenous senior community member living in Cairns asked my views and opinions on Mr Katter's new party, as he was not sure whether Mr Katter is or would be supportive of Indigenous issues. eg. hunting. In all honesty I was not too sure how Katter's party will go.
An example of new party's in QLD - the extreme changes we have witnessed with the creation of the Queensland Party who are yet to convince the North they are different from the LNP.
Issues raised by many Just Ground members from climate change to asset sales are real issues still awaiting a saviour. Is Mr Katter's new Australian Party the answer? - I don't know. Like anything new there will be a level of sceptism. How pragmatic it will be - time will tell.
The one thing I do know is that real issues affecting our communities are still not being addressed appropriately by our current government both state and federally eg. social justice, law and order, violence against women, businesses struggling and closing down because they are unable to pay rent etc etc etc.....
How will Katter's party address these issues and how pragmatic his policies will be is yet to be revealed

Permalink Reply by Jan Courtney on March 29, 2012 at 11:23am There is an old adage - "The Truth Hurts" - I am wondering whether that's why posts are disappearing from this topic ?
Katter is no threat to anyone, so I guess I'll leave you all to your little censored "love in" as he's not really worth commenting on anyway.
Permalink Reply by james darby on March 29, 2012 at 11:34am Hi Jan. Please accept one more comment from me. Bob failed to realise, come the Federal Election, preferences will have to allocated. By not allocating preferences Bob failed to gain the support of those political advocates who influence up to one third of the 30% undecided or indifferent voters and so lost 6 seats he could/should have won have he the courage to declare preferences. I did have a five hour meeting with Bob just before he commenced the new party and was impressed. Now I am simply bitterly dissappointed. I would have loved to have seen Labor rubbed out of Queensland completely and KAP well and truely in as the Opposition. That is an Opposition 'right' of LNP.
Permalink Reply by Jan Courtney on March 29, 2012 at 11:40am James that just goes to show that his ego is such, that he is not a good bet.
I'm sure he's a very nice man with good family values, which I regard as extremely important in a politician, but unfortunately he does have a huge ego and is too erratic to be a good leader.
I thought I'd just have a look at his electioneering video, but it has been removed as it breached YouTubes terms of service.

A new video from Katter’s Australia party today showing Bob Katter on a bus with all his candidates before engaging in some kind of dance party with a bunch of young break dancers as Bad Boys plays. No we don’t quite understand what it means either.
Permalink Reply by Pam Hushing on March 29, 2012 at 4:32pm Hi Rob,
I was just quoting Ruth Bonnet in respect of the "Magna Carta".
As I said earlier in this discussion (answer to Ruth Bonnet):........ (see page 40)
"Also never mind the magna carta- all your little nest eggs all safe and cosy I take it Pam"
And I don't know what my "little nest eggs" have to with anything here.
Cheers
Pam
Jan there is also an old "saying" that if- you can't do someone a good turn -you should leave them alone.
I said many times to you Bev and others- If you don't like katter- put him last do your worst to him but the childish petty arguments that you all persist with that could be said of 98% of other politicians. I thought that it was paranoia at the small parties and independents splitting the vote and letting the ALP win - but after such a landslide - we can all see it is some personal vendetta that I will not tolerate '
Call it a "love in" if you want to continue your shallow fluffy dialogue!

Although Robert only received 4% of the vote in South Brisbane he says he has been fielding "an inundation of ...calls..a lot of them are from Labor people who feel completely abandoned by the resignation (of Anna Bligh)"
