For Like minded people who like to see-
The Chinese today have shown their military might for all the world to see. Australia has seen a reduction in Defense spending since the USA began placing troops in the top-end. The USA has made it known that they are displeased with Australia's reduction on Defense spending as they need our assistance in patrolling the seas north of us.
Furthermore, the Australian Navy and Air Force is heavily involved in the role prescribed by the Government with regard to illegal entry of refugees by boats from Indonesia which is further depleting our ability to police the waters surrounding Australia.
So I ask the question "Are we Protected"?
Kind regards
Caroline

Those islands that the tension is about, Senkaku - Diaoyu. The history is interesting.
It's worth having a look on Google Earth. From Taiwan, there is a string of many islands heading towards Okinawa. As you zoom into them you will see many photo pads, that you can click on to examine.
Even though some are populated, some have agriculture, it's probably strategic location that is the key. China may be nervous of being "surrounded" by possible unfriendly bases. They are in the main, bits of the remains of volcanic action.
Cheers

I went looking to see what sort of price MiG-15's are bringing - there's none for sale at present. The MiG-15 first took to the air in Dec.1947. I would describe the early Mig-15 as the Lada Niva of fighter aircraft. Worked well with limitations, the MiG-15 was unstable over about 620mph, and was a difficult gun platform. It was better than the American F-86 early in the Korean War, but the F-86 was upgraded, which gave it advantages over the MiG-15, especially in a dog fight.
A lot of enthusiasts with lots of money, have been buying MiG-15's, but I did see a MiG-17 for $33K -USD.
The Russian Sukhoi Aircraft Corporation has been producing the SU-30MK for a few years, another version is the SU-33, designed for ship based work, with fold up wings and a flat tailplane assembly for reduced height for storage on ships. These aircraft should be viable until 2020.
Beginning this month, a new "improved" version has been test flown, the SU-35

Re planes and Russia's capability, the MIG 1s upward were the deadliest in the Korean skies. The MIG 1 was just a great big, fat jet engine with a pilot stuck in front, some cannons, super stumpy wings and tail plane. As such, it had an incredible power to weight ratio.
Re the island disputes, that over the Spratlys is probably the oldest, and potentially most explosive.
Re who starts wars, read Allan Howe's extensive piece re Iran, the Ayatollahs and that supreme nutter (armpit scratcher, as AH calls him) Ahmadinejad in today's Herald Sun, and feel very afraid. Would be martyrs indeed, to see the end of the world as their passport to 'heaven'.

Jeff have you seen the Video of US navy Seals driving a Zodiac into the back of a Sea Stallion at speed while the Chopper Pilot drags the back of the Chopper in the Ocean,Now that is some impressive piloting.

Do you have any spare space around your person, that could take an A.I.S. transponder, as used in tracking ships and water craft, as a transplant.
Then we could all track you on the internet and then tell you where you are on the planet.
There is also a version of the software, which could create your position data as a .kml file which could be overlaid on Google Earth for the display.
I have seen recently, a mobile phone app. which allows trucking companies to track their semis anywhere in the country, on the mobile phone screen, so that may be an alternative.
But we don't believe you're lost. - Really.
Regards and Bon Voyage,
Jeff

That Zodiac trick would be a one-way, don't stuff it up, operation aye?
Yes, I have recently watched probably the same refueling vid., I believe it was 2x FA-18 USAF, refueling from a KC35 tanker aircraft.
Tricky, very tricky.

The MiG-15 has been an enthusiast's dream, goes like a rocket, climbs very well. This made them great airshow aircraft. But from what i have read, they also run rings around the US F-80 & F-84 aircraft in Korea, but the US upgraded their fighters to F-86 Sabres, which then changed the balance. The kill rate against Chinese and N. Korean pilots was 10:1, even with the higher trained Russian pilots the kill rate against the Russian pilots was 2:1.- kill rate was the name of the game.
The instrumentation in the MiG-15 was crude, the stick was heavy and the wings flexed at speed making it an unstable gun platform. the "Dutch roll"was mentioned in the description of the instability.
Wiki description of Dutch Roll

Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on August 21, 2012 at 5:18pm Well Alan, Stephen and Jeff did you both miss me while I was on my search with Google Earth? I did not need any implants or have to buy any new applications. I figured out a (female) way of addressing the problem. I simply got the Tom Tom out of the car and plugged it into the same wall socket as my lap top computer so that they were connected and working in concert (through the wall socket) and viola! I have been to all those islands, I saw the light-house, the airfield, the agricultural plots of lands, the sticky-up rocks, the beaches etc. And I did not get lost and arrived home safely.
What a creative and unique way to solve a problem!! I simply amaze myself sometimes!!!
I should patent my idea. What do you think?
My fond regards

Permalink Reply by Dr Caroline Wright on August 21, 2012 at 7:22pm Let me explain...the both of you referred to my trip to the islands but Stephen was the one who really got me interested in this whole issue and has helped to maintain that interest. I hope my explanation has cleared this up for you.
Re the lady on the radio saying that she was the 'voice' are you sure that it was not moi?
I await the responses from the spaceman and the poet.
Permalink Reply by Jeff Hutcho on August 21, 2012 at 11:05pm Oh Caroline,
You are innovative and clever as well, but it did not get you on the net so we could track all your movements. Damn, foiled again.
Sorting it out yourself is good
Linking via bluetooth, or WiFi is, I'm sorry to say, is a reasonably common way to link compatible electronics, such as mobile phones, laptops, GPS units, headphones and tele-headsets. I am using a bluetooth tele-headset, with my tablet computer at present. It is interesting, because I am teaching it to hear "Jeff speak" at present, - voice recognition software.
Just something else I can confuse.

You've got to pardon Bro' al, he likes to put labels on people. Now it's "spaceman", because a lot of my interests are related to space, sun, cosmic rays, satellites, electronics and computers.
Now if I did a return on his labeling and named him "Mr Plastic", or similar nonsense, he may get offended.
Regards,
Jeff

There is a Queensland adventure flight company in Allenstown. Rockhampton. They also do airshows according to their website.
They fly a MiG-15.
