On the Southern Cross News tonight (Channel Seven) it was announced that no agreement was reached today (D-Day) and the group has been given a further two weeks to reach a compromise re forestry practices in Tasmania.

Now is a good time to take examples from good discussions such as this, and write to the suitable member of the opposition suggesting that they remove the tax exemption from Greenpeace and the other huge multinational, unelected, green activist groups, when they assume government. ( Is it Senator Colbeck?) Some of the letters we wrote to the LNP before the last election bore fruit last week when the Beatty/Bligh grab for forestry leases was flagged to be recindered.

After reading what you said Dixie I have sent letters to the three Newspapers that publish in Tasmania. It contains a precise of what my research today has uncovered about Greenpeace.

In my readings yesterday I also found out that in the past the Greenpeace activists (read Greens) used to hammer metal spikes into the trees in the area set apart for logging. As you can imagine this caused significant danger to the forestry workers that used chain saws to cut down the trees.

Thank goodness this practice is no longer used by these vigilantes.

In the Advocate today it is reported that Michael Hirst has been joined by his wife Dimity because they want to get the other side of the issue of logging aired. They are concerned about the impact minority groups are having on Tasmanian businesses and products. The couple are representatives of a group called "Give it Back".

It is their intention to stay camped under the tree as long as Miranda maintains her 'sit-in' up the tree.

I say good for them as these Greens continue to have too much influence on policy making in Tasmania.

Hi Dr Caroline,

Spiking was used on the Mid North Coast, NSW by presumably NEFA (I don't know if there was any proof or charges), resulting in a circular saw at Heron's Creek mill, exploding into shrapnel and injuring a mill worker. 

Spiking also occurred further up the coast.

The mills ended up using metal detector systems on the saw tables to protect the workers and equipment.

Of course the enviro's got smart and have used ceramic spikes/rods to replace metal spikes, so they wouldn't be detected.

Some of the feed back by forestry workers who use chainsaws, and this threat, I could not copy here.

Using Alan's directions this is a trial run of the fact that there has been a two week extension for the interested parties to come to an agreement re a sustainable forestry practice plan for Tasmania.

The following website gives the history of the last 30 years of Forestry v Greens and if after the last three years of talks an extra two weeks have been granted. It would appear that they must be close to some solution. The Greens would like 50% of the total State locked up as high conservation forests. As you can imagine with only half a million in population in cities and towns around the State and farms in rural and remote areas and regrowth and plantation forests that does not leave much room for the State to expand.
