Good idea Geoff.

 I would suggest to Just Grounds members that we keep this discussion fairly focused upon providing an index of mentions of the Convoy of No Confidence in the media & leave general comments to other discussions. That way it will a whole lot easier to search for an inividual media article. Three times now I have posted a comment in the routes discussion with a list of current media mentions. Now they are lost in the middle somewhere & I will have to trawl through it all to bring them here.

The first break trough in the media came from the efforts of John Mikkelsen. I have copied & pasted this from the routes discussion.

Thanks to Just Grounds member John Mikkelsen the Convoy of No Confidence has been given coverage as an opinion piece in The Punch. The editors have given it a catchy title & have had cartoonist Warren Brown supply his comic view. For Telling the Government to go and get trucked [click here]

Breaker, breaker Rubber Ducky, looks like we’ve got us a convoy… “. Well, actually we’ve got eight of them now and soon the wheels will be turning across the length and breadth of Australia in what promises to be the biggest mobile protest Australia we have ever seen

 

What originated as a plan for a peaceful protest starting from Darwin and calling for an early election has gone viral in the space of less than a week. Organisers, the National Road Freighters Association, soon realised from expressions of interest and promises to participate that Darwin would not be able to cater for the expected numbers, and routes have now been planned for eight separate convoys including several in Queensland and others in all mainland states

Yes, I should have put Mikko at the top. Actually he is second from the bottom in the list, followed by my item on The Climate Sceptics blog, which substantially quotes Mikko.

Found my last update on the routes discussion on mentions of the convoy in the media. I kept on reply to prior comments so in the one place are all three times that I gave an update of media & online interest.

CHARTERS Towers residents have had a gutful of Federal Government decisions negatively impacting their lives and they are planning a "no confidence" rally to make their point.

The growing grassroots movement is set to gain momentum today as graziers and townsfolk unite.

The Convoys of No Confidence

This Green Government, assisted by its friends in the ABC, seem determined to

destroy Australia's primary industries. The most dramatic recent example was the

overnight destruction of the live cattle exports from Northern Australia. They also

wage an incessant war on live sheep exports. The most underhand blow was an

unremarked clause in the plans revealed on Carbon Sunday which will end all

logging in native forests. The most cynical campaign is being orchestrated by the

Greens against the natural gas industry. It is mainly the green war on coal and

nuclear power that is driving a worldwide boom in gas fired electricity generation –

every wind farm will need gas backup, and gas will do the heavy lifting. Greens are

also waging a war on our fishermen, and on the development rights of every

landowner with a block on the beach. And their carbon tax will hit every road train,

tractor, and truck in the land.

Everywhere, real people producing the real things that keep Australia warm and well

fed have had enough. One truckie in Northern Territory announced a Convoy of No

Confidence to head for Canberra. Within days this has escalated to Eight Convoys of

No Confidence.

Out of interest here is some of the original posting.

The Transport Workers Union (TWU), appearing at the [Senate] inquiry on behalf of truck drivers, also claimed the carbon tax could “wipe out” profits of owner-operators, fleet operators and some trucking companies.

TWU national president Tony Sheldon labelled the carbon tax a “deat... the $150 to $200 a week impact of the tax.

“The issue of whether it is a carbon tax, or any other cost impost on the industry that can’t be passed on is that people are sent to their deaths,” Mr Sheldon said.

I've found those QCL and Bolt links and added them.

 

Cate has also been on ABC Alice Springs radio and has done a pre-recorded interview with Michael Duffy at ABC Sydney (this will be broadcast once the convoy is underway.)

Actually, I was wrong about the Michael Duffy interview - it is going to be broadcast tomorrow (Monday) afternoon at 16:41 - see here - so listen in to ABC Radio National Counterpoint to hear "Convoy Cate from Charleville"!!!  Go girl!
