A father of seven children will spend 8 months in jail starting Wednesday as a result of his efforts to the defend the unborn.
It is the longest jail-term ever received by an Australian pro-life activist.
Graham Preston, 56, was called by police last week to arrange a time for his arrest. He negotiated to move it back from 8am to 9am this coming Wednesday, May 2, so he would have enough time to get his children to school.
Mr. Preston will serve 232 days in prison - seeing him out just in time for Christmas - for refusing to pay roughly $8000 in fines that have accumulated after ten years of non-violently blocking the entrances of four abortion clinics around Brisbane.
Since beginning non-violent direct action with the group Protect Life almost exactly ten years ago (April 16, 2002), Mr. Preston has endured more than ten months in jail over five separate jail-terms - mostly in Brisbane’s maximum security Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre.

If you increase the current birth rate, all you do is move the problem ~80 years into the future. We will forever be "chasing our tail", with bigger and bigger generations to pay for the ageing one.
We really should be aiming for an average birth rate of about 2-3 children per female. Any less and our population will decline, any more and our population will eventually be unsustainable.

... anyone like Graeme Preston who offers a peaceful protest to this form of "healthcare" is sent to a maximum security prison cell. Does this sound like a civilized society?
Rory,
A wee bit exaggerated, don't you think? Mr Preston is being imprisoned for failure to pay the fines associated with his offences. As a fine defaulter, there is no way on earth he will be in a maximum security section of the prison. If he were to pay his $8,000 in accumulated fines, then he wouldn't be going to prison at all.
Permalink Reply by Rory Donnellan on July 26, 2012 at 10:46pm Ever wonder why massive fines were dished out to Mr Preston but no penalties have ever been issued to the baby-killers? Isn't abortion still on the criminal code here in Queensland?

With the exception of Keneally - all members of Emily's List:
Joan Elizabeth Kirner AC (born 20 June 1938), Australian politician, was the 42nd Premier of Victoria, the first woman to hold the position, which she held for two years prior to a landslide election defeat.
Carmen Mary Lawrence (born 2 March 1948) is a retired Australian politician; a former Premier of Western Australia and the first woman to become Premier of a State of the Commonwealth of Australia
Anna Maria Bligh (born 14 July 1960) is an Australian politician and the 37th Premier of Queensland from 2007 to 2012. Bligh was an Australian Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland seat of South Brisbane from 1995 to 2012.
Bligh attempted to win a second full term as Premier in the 2012 state election. However, her party suffered the worst defeat of a sitting government in Queensland history
Kristina Kerscher Keneally (born 19 December 1968, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States) is a former Australian politician and was the 42nd Premier of New South Wales. She was elected leader of the Australian Labor Party in New South Wales and thus Premier in 2009, but went on to lose government to the Liberal/National Coalition at the March 2011 state election
Julia Eileen Gillard (born 29 September 1961) is the 27th and current Prime Minister of Australia, in office since 24 June 2010.

While Australia has our fair-share of baby-killers, at least we don't yet have the millions of forced-abortions still being perpetrated under China's "one-child policy", and we don't add butchered and dehyrated Chinese babies to vitamin tablets as was recently reported in the international press. On the other hand, we feel for all the good Chinese people who must suffer under the communist regime. Members of the underground Chinese Catholic Church (eg. the Cardinal Kung Foundation) must surely be some of the most saintly people in our modern era.

I don't doubt that character assassination by "Ozzy bureaucrats" could be severe, but worse than forced abortion??? A damaged career seems preferable to a viciously murdered baby.

Isn't it a bit rich to condemn a single act of non-fatal violence against a group who is not associated with the individual, while remaining silent on the numerous cowardly murders committed and publicly advocated by right-wing conservative groups against their assorted "targets"?
8 murders (including "collateral damage" deaths), 17 attempted murders, 41 bombings and 173 arson attacks in the US alone:

So Rory, do you condemn all these attacks as "right wing violence", and further condemn the groups that advocate such attacks, such as the so-called Army of God?
Honest Government, Fair Rights to property and compensation, Australia and our people strong and proud, reinstatement of values and respect
