The Greenies are picketing BHP Billiton  Roxby Downs

but do they know why?To ban uranium for energy because of what?

Technology advances otherwise we would still be complaining about that fool who invented the wheel.  Russia is to built 12 new type plants in India. Yet here we have the Greens wanting to ban the acid leach in situ process for extraction of uranium because of some ecodoom that even they cannot identify.

But notice the childish, immorality of the Greens to avoid comment about the more deadly and more widely used cyanide heap leach on the surface for the extraction of gold. Not to mention dealing with the rabbit plagues.

The Greens should get out of the way unless they have practical solutions to the problems of progress that they only think they have identified.

Caroline,

If I be a poet,then I don't know it.
But if I be as the Devil cast
at 82 it cannot last

Her mother tried of that I'm sure
When out in public so demure
With glove in hand and floral hat
Holding Court with this and that

I have to know: Did she alter you or did you stay the devil you were/are?

You are a great poet and I envy you as a poet I am not yet one of my children has this skill but I have no idea where that came from.

Caroline

I accept your apology because Bro Al is watching us. ...and smoke that thing outside. What happened to the other pieces?

I have called the war off then as we will now smoke a piece pipe.

O.K. What a nice way to point out my typographical error!! When I was describing myself using "p" words the other day I do not think I used the word 'perfect' thank goodness.

But I must admit that the pipe did get broken once and I had to glue it back together. But it does still work and I promise that I will smoke it out in the shed when you locate one for me.

Fond regards

Caroline

Well, the "I'll alter him" was in reality "aisle, altar, hymn"

Being "of the shed"would put any and all comment back into perspective for Caroline, Bro' Al. But the future plans and ideas of about 25 years ago are now coming of age. I was engaged one time to undertake a Machinery Breakdown Survey for Insurers who were to insure the risks associated with a huge rail track installation unit riding on the new laid track took up the old track ahead, knocked off the ties, ruffled the ballast and added to level and grade, set new ties and relaid the track with a ground team to clean up and drive new pins Average speed on the straights, about 3 mph, My reports are on a floppy somewhere to find This is 26 years ago.

But the risk factors of a long distance pipeline to a harbor side smelter that already exists to accommodate coal by rail and sea as  the heat source would be difficult to insure and they  are old. Apart from the enviro lobby to leave coal in the ground until there is a better way of extracting its energy, i'e fracting, it is the gas which is more efficient anyway. But I dont know enough about the logistics of the industry today to suggest it is more efficient and profitable to process  the ore and finished product both to and from the fuel source by rail. Just looking at the map of locations for ore, energy to process and distance to port, it makes sense to me to have a closer look at the logistics

Now that you have joined a cabal of 2 thinkers, I'll give it more attention because at the very heart of this issue is extracting the ore + rail to port + ship ore to China and India + same time ship energy for process to China and India from a different location + ship large part of finished product back to Australia etc. when there is no practical reason for the ore to ever leave the country. The capital to build a gas fired  smelter? Gina is earning $50 million a day at present, 6 days to pay for it. We are shipping 5 million tonnes a year of the LNG to China and India and now a million tonnes to Japan for chopsticks and Labor is spending $36 billion for the NBN and its 24/7 TV. While Craig Emerson makes a fool of himself and his Government.

Cheers Bro' Al' from Bob

alan mikkelsen said: Bob, I just posted an item on my old Abiotic Oil discussion which is a copy of an email I sent to our federal member, Josh Frydenberg. It addresses Josh's article in T he Australian, extolling the potential of our shale gas reserves, something dear to both our hearts! Indeed in my comment, naturally without mentioning your name, I refered to a friend's enthusiasm for developing interest in new upgrading industries in remote areas, such as iron oxide ore -> pig iron -> maybe steel, utilising our energy resources.

Here's a link to that new comment. Must admit my visits to JG have been restricted of late, and with this topic of yours now itself buried back several pages, I had forgotten its existence! Otherwise I could have posted my comment here. Whatever, we are both now back on p1, probably for a fleeting moment or two. Just as well we are not glory seekers, eh?  :-)

Cheers  bro' al
