Waterproofing The Nation

Mr Burke, Penny Wong and Peter Garrett, Paul Caica, Mike Rann in  SA et al, cannot change the fact of a hung Parliament and neither can they, the ecoheads of the GDC, the Greens Doomsday Cult, and the MDB Authority  change the facts of a drought severe enough to produce a no flow in the river  A no flow is a no flow for everyone including the environment..

The need for an action plan to waterproof the nation's food bowl was obvious to  casual thinkers in residence of the basin in the 60's. A plan to bring water from Lake Argyle to Burkes,or Queensland to the headwaters of the system at that time was no more difficult than the Snowy. Mike Rann, Tail end Charlie in Copenhagen, got a bit uppity with NSW and Vic and committed about $7 billion for a desal plant to be paid principle and interest over 25 years or so while rattling a blunt sabre at NSW and Vic with the threat of a High Court action.. Having developed the Ramco Heights Irrigation area at Waikerie, a project that would be indefensible today, I have to smile at all of this salivation being washed out with so much rain.

Yet the Government, committed to the desal must charge the cost to all the SA Water customers whether they are connected to it or not to pay for it while the torrent of overflows from the storages is wasted out to sea. A truly nail biting event to test the limits of even the $28 million a year "Media Advisers" who effectively run the State administration in SA.

Yet it is quite astonishing that the MDB report has no such vision for the future to produce more
food on land that we already farm, or the primary need of expanding population and industries that support it while maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Kofi Anan was right. The next major conflict would begin over water and food. Little could he or anyone imagine it might begin in Griffith or Renmark.

Interesting discussion Bob.

Good to hear some insight from a South Aust perspective.
was wondering why? the sawater was slated to rise 20% every year..
now I know!
thought the pt augusta desal was private? for the mines use?
or didnt that happen? or is there another one?

we do NOT need the NBN we DO NEED a national water network.
we need a revolution too!

hang em by the nuts or their necks...but hang them we must!
Laurel, we could start with Bob Brown and his Green Doomsday Cult

There has not been a revolt since Eureka but if they keep pushing there may well be a situation sooner rather than later for organised mass civil disobedience with everyone refusing to pay the tax. Jo Nova has set out the clear "10 Wong Resons" in my mail this morning. ,

"To get the sympathy of the masses, we must repeat the crudest, most stupid things and never admit a mistake" (Adolph Hitler,Mein Kampf,1925. chapt.6)
Hi Bob I do like the GDC appelation. suits them to a T(ree)hugger.
If ONLY australia would find the Eureka moment once again.
the bread and circuses the romans used is working all too well for the time being.
when they cant afford the power to watch the Flatscreen. then, maybe? something may happen?
way too late and too little by then after our water freedom and land/ rights have been sold to the UN EU overlordlings.
I keep saying it.
mass general strike!
if everyone refuses to co operate you think they can really fine and jail everyone in Aus? with our already snowed under judicial system:-)
Laurel,

The Nation is much bigger than either of them but none can feel it. Yet it is all around them but they cannot see it. I rather like the civil disobedience idea and you are right, of course, they might have to turn the fit men astlum seekers out on the street to make room. After having paid 50 of them 100 grand each over the past 2 years they could move into the Ritz.

Indeed, a little revolution could be a good thing now and again to straighten up the corrupt mporality. Bob Brown in an interview by Kerry O'Brien a few days ago on the ABC "7.30 Report" repeated, "Let me make it quite clear" 7 times after being tongue tied by Kerry.

My reference to Hitler came to mind reading what Penny Wong has been saying all along.

Bob
Hi Bob, I am very interested in the SA situation because my brother lives in Goolwa. So mate I will keep following this discussion.

Ragards,
Rae
Rae,

For about 40 years I have been an advocate who has lived and worked on the River to develop some of its potential not only for food to feed the nation but water for the Iron Triangle and the industries that contribute to its wealth.

In that process the pools were created for navigation. The Chaffey Bros developed the pools for irrigation later. The barrage was built to stop the sharks wandering around Mannum at high tide and the lakes enjoyed a natural environmental cycle of change that, to two boys in 1937. was idyllic. It was then that my brother and I watched fascinated from the north bank of the mouth,at the millions of fish foaming the surface of the incoming tide stream tryinng to get out to sea.

Since this drought, just another of irregular occurrences, took hold about 6-7 years ago, the flows have steadily reduced. Reduced for every living thing and for the past 3 years I have pushed for the sea to reclaim the lower lakes for Nature to restore the area to the tidal estuary it has been for eons.

It is quite criminal to glorify a falsehood in politics or anywhere else where money is concerned and I feel very sorry for Combet who is to be sacrificed for not having enough life experience or the talent to exercise the power thrust upon him

Ragards to You too
Bob
Bob, Greg Combet has no expertise in this field of course and like every minister relies on the 'experts' to advise him. Unfortunately their experts don't seem to be telling the real truth.

My brother used to go down the Koorong to fish and the family spent pleasurable hours on Lake Alexandrina before it 'dried up'. He hasn't put his boat in to fish or for pleasure for two years, well you can't in the Lake anyway, unless it has filled somewhat

It was devastating when I was there last year, although it was starting to receive some water. I had to go to Mannum and the River was reasonable there. I mean the Murray Princess and the Proud Mary were still going. I never twigged why it seemed reasonable there and not further down. I know now, more or less. We didn't talk about the river because of other problems. Just as well the bridge went in to Hindmarsh, the vehicle ferry couldn't have run.

Rae,

When I travelled to Adelaide today to get "wired up" to a heart monitor, the pool level at the bridge has started to flood out over the dairy flats. We are coming into Climate Change by way of the monsoons of Queensland. a natural annual event, with the seasons. I just hope that there is a repeat of the 56 flood and the Doomsday Cult of the Greens and their fellow travellerscan handle the "inconvenient truth" that the flood is not man made or from their version of global warming.

Cheers from Bob
